Question about Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a toshiba satellite laptop the screen is black

I have a toshiba satellite laptop the screen is blank when I turn it on. I tried hooking up an external laptop but it does not work. Once I turn it on the only way to shut it off is by pulling the power cord or removing the battery. I took out the hard drive and tested it in another laptop and it works. I can hear the fan running and the cd drive will open and close. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

NO model stated no good aNSWERS POSSIBLE
    Satellite what number model.
the power button works if you hold it down for 10 seconds, Intel rules , intel hard logic in the chipset. if not the power rails are bad.

the battery is no good, replace them all
to test the PC run with no huge battery present run on AC power only.
if the PC works great you learned now that battery huge is NO GOOD, for a fact.
for sure shorted batteries are evil do not allow old shorted batteries to be inside any home, or they can catch fire, youtube that.
new PCs now have inside battery fuses ending most fires.

if the PC is old, 5 to 7 years old the RTC coin cell batter is bad too.
on super old toshiba' the coin cell is a custom soldered down rechargable battery very hard to replace, done many. custom cells non standard.

Shutting the computer down could be done by holding the Power Switch down for 10 seconds, rather than unplug/no battery "solution". A blank screen is more often than not caused by the failure of the screen's backlight. Plugging an external monitor in the ext monitor port would verify the computer still works, and I am sure it does.

Have you tried hooking up an external monitor to it and seeing if it works? I would try that first to rule out a video card issue. If the external monitor works fine, here is a website with pictures on how to disassemble the laptop to replace the screen:

How about the LCD inverter? Did you replace the inverter? It is probably not the actual LCD but just the inverter that needs changing. Give it a go, they are inexpensive, try eBay.

Toshiba screen is blank ans light on under F10 key.

Is the screen completely blank, or just dim? If it is dim, then most likely your lcd power inverter is bad, and needs to be replaced, which is the cheapest part to replace. If it is completely blank then you should try to hook up an external monitor to the laptop, and don't get any video, then most likely there is an issue with your motherboard or video card. The external monitor method sometimes needs you to press a combination of the Fn key and another F key in order to switch from your laptop lcd to an external monitor.

You need to:

- Connect everything with the laptop turned off
- Boot the laptop
- Use the Fn key plus F8 or F9 (I'm trying from a small picture of the keyboard!) to cycle through the external display options.

Laptop turns on, Screen stays blank

Sounds like one of two options, it's either a blown out back light or you have a graphics problem. If it's the back light, you should still hear windows boot up and no picture. Try one of two things. Either hook it up to a external monitor or try a flashlight and see if you can see any images when you shine it across the screen.
