The R4i Red card might be a fake (the genuine one shows r4i-sdhc.com on the box, note the hyphen!), and if you've updated your console to the
latest 1.4.2 or 1.4.3 firmwares it's unlikely to work. Check out R4 DS Revolution Cards at www.r4dsrevolutioncards.com (info site) to differentiate between different versions of R4i cards and make sure you buy a genuine one!
A lot of the fakes will indeed work when you buy them but as soon as you update your console they'll stop working.
Make sure when you are installing the software to the R4i Card you format it first. If you don't format it to the correct format type then it can cause the following;
Unable to start, Freezing, corrupt files.
Goto the R4i's Manufacturer's website and get the latest version and also look for a 'How-To'. Also make sure you card is compatible with DSi XL and not just DSi.

You can't. Since you updated your Dsi to version 1.4, your r4i card is too outdated to bybass the new software of the update. You need to buy the R4i v1.4 (red box) if you still want to use an R4i card. Yes, you can still use the roms and .sav files by copying them from the old R4i card onto the computer, then to the new r4i card after installing the kernel (which I have written a guide for in the tips and tricks section, just visit my profile and the link is right there).
you obviously either updated to version 1.4 and they dont have a patch for that yet, or your using the DS version. either can be easily checked. if its your DSi that is version 1.4 then you can format system memory, or wait for a new patch. fi its the DS version, then buy a DSi version.
You must install the USB into the pc, format the micro SD card (if you have one) and get the latest kernel from the CD/website, now get the R4i into your dsi, and enyoy! (please be aware that some flashcards can work on V 1.03 or under, so don't upgrade to 1.04!)
I have this issue also and i only bought mine last week. I have a DSi and the card is for a DSi. During glame play it froze so i turned it off and back on and then its saying theres no card inserted in the DS Game card slot.
I have a DSi version 1.3A <does this make a difference?
It was working fine before.
The R4i does NOT work on UK (PAL) DSi consoles. I bought an R4i card last week and it will not work regardless of which software kernal is loaded onto it. The website I bought it from have offered to replace it with an Acekard 2i which DOES work with UK DSi's.
