Digital Zoom Stopped Working

Does it say anything about the lever under zoom levers in your owner's manual?

This is the power zoom control?
Could be a burnt out servo motor that does the work.
I think there's no way out but a repair shop.

Try to switch on the camera then push the zoom button while gently slapping the camera (it wil help only if rings are not broken

if the zoom stopped working so there is a mecanical problem, if you try to use the zoom and it does not respond so service is required to get the zoom working properly.

Since the zoom bottom still works,I believe the zoom motor is now going bye-bye.Time to visit the service center.

needs to be check by an authorized SONY DEALER.
theres a ribbon connector that needs to be replaced ,or If you drop the camcorder by accident it could be that the ribbon is misplaced, hope it helps , AJ

Your zoom probably does not come out all the way and therefore you get some blurry shots. Had the same problem on a Panasonic camera. Solution: replace zoom motor and gears. Results=expensive. Goes beyond the value of the camera. You might want to buy another used A85 or newer digital camera.

i had that same problem. check your image size, the camera cant zoom if the image size is set to 3.1M or 2.8M(3:2)

how to change image size:
turn on camera and leave it in camera mode (picture taking mode)
press the delete/image button
change image size until camera zooms again
VGA gives the biggest zoom range
