I dont know if you can erase the child lock but if your universal remote has a settings button you should be able to turn the child lock off through the setting menu
According to Hitachi themselves, there is no such set with model number C29-F100. The closest one they have on file is the C29-F800. Perhaps your set is an over-seas set, originally sold in Japan? The original remote has a MENU button surrounded by 4 "arrow" buttons - arrow up, down, left and right. For the C29-F800, using the original remote, press the MENU button 4 times or the SETUP button once. There should be 4 choices on that page and the first one, the one on top, is LANGUAGE. Highlight the first one using the "arrow down" (also labeled P-) button and select the language ENGLISH using the left or right arrow buttons. Exit the menu by pressing MENU 3 more times or SETUP once. I believe I can download the owner's manual for the C29-F800 and send it to you if you need it.

page 15 towards the bottom - unfortunately you can only remove the child lock with the remote.
If you look on the remote (possibly inside the battery compartment) it should have a model number - sorry i had no luck yet finding it out online - let us know that, and we can try and source a new remote for you.

It is designed to control all hitachi tvs from 1988, including all the hitachi brand specific functions and seems readily available, no link because you will find lots, maybe somewhere close to you.
