Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it

Go into your system profiler. Make sure the DVD is showing up. Click the DVD and check what disks it can use and make sure the disks you are using are compatible.

I had the same problem with my Toshiba .I thought the dvd-rw-dvr was bad. After diagnosing the problem, I found out the device was working ok but the driver was missing or corrupted. After uninstalling and disabling a few times windows 7 couldn't fix the problem. I went to the control panel right clicked on devices and printers. Pictures of the devices showed up on a screen. One pic was "Jim's computer" showing at the bottom of the pic was a small yellowish icon indicating a problem with the device. I right clicked on the device,"Jim's computer", and a menu appeared. Near the bottom of the menu was an item which said "trouble shoot". I clicked on it and bingo. I followed the directions and loaded a filter driver. The DVD was fixed.

Hi, according to what I understand the unit works for some situations especially but you cannot visualize the content, in this case the problem that you one presents shows off to be Cd-DVD's unit that this trumping, if the equipment this one even in guarantee, you must come to an CAS or Center of Authorized Service, in order that they diagnose and replace the unit

i'm having HP PAVILLION DV6000 and OS is VISTA HOME PREMIUM .My problem is that my system does'nt show any dvd drive in MY COMPUTER. I am having PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17B ATA Device .device manager show a yellow icon and tells that it needs driver. It was working properly before.

it's windows problem.
basically you need to edit (delete) registry.
follow this step from microsoft.

it's look like you have problem with dvd isnot showing in windows explorer / dvd driver.

basicly just update (delete some key) the windows registry and restart. ussually this work ok.

The CD laser has got dirty or failed
Try a driver cleaner if that does not work
replacement drive required
