My Sandisk Sansa C140 worked fine for about 6 months, then when I tried to turn it on one day it just froze when the "sandisk" screen turns on. All I can see is that first screen when you turn it on. After This happens I have to pull the battery out to turn it off. What's wrong?

Try a "hard reset".
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to shut off.
With the device off, press and hold the vol + and the center select button.
Power it back on, see if that works.

Best of Luck.
You need to Have Windows XP / SP2, Wndows Media Player 10 or higher in order for the device to be recognized.
If you have these components, try changing the mode on the device to MSC Mode. Settings>Mode>MSC.
Best of Luck.
Try to connect your Sansa c140 to another PC. If it continued to show that it isn't recognized then I'm sorry to tell you that your Sansa ROM has malfunctioned.
Only people at Sandisk could fix it.
