This message means that the printer thinks the waste ink pads are full and so
> it refuses to print until the pads are replaced and the waste ink (protection)
> counter is reset.
> In practice the pads will not be full if this is the first time you have
> received the message so all that needs to be done is to reset the counter. Next
> time you must replace or clean the pads.
> Go to http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml and download the utility.
> Install it, run it and exit it from the main window, now go to the icon in the
> system tray and right click on it. Select waste ink or protection counter and
> select reset. If this gives trouble then uninstall the Epson status monitor and

The SSC service utility won't reset the R1800 counter.
The Epson service program is needed and can be downloaded from:
http://www.2manuals.com/

The R1800/2400 service manual can be downloaded from that site.
If you want to have a go at replacing the pads, then instructions are in
the manual.

We're getting this Service Required message - Parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life. See your printer documentation. What part are we needing to replace?

the parts most likely to be replaced with such a message are the waste ink pads. (sponge pads that collect the ink that is used for print head cleanings). these pads are difficult to reach inside the printer (full dissassembly is necessary) and doing so is a VERY dirty job. i suggest contacting a repair center near you.

Strange message epson cx8400

Your printer needs to be reset, the part that is near the end of their service life is the waste ink pad, it means that it is almost full, when it's full your printer will stop printing.

Reset the waste ink counter!
Assuming you have completed your modification you can reset your printers waste counter using this method (I did this and it worked on the CX6400) can't guarantee it works on all)
1. You will see big button on your printer like power on (this is on the left
2. side), black & white photocopy, color photocopy, and then the stop button (these are on the right side).
3. first turn off your printer
4. push the b/w + color + stop buttons together and hold
5. push the power on button and hold (so you'll now be holding down 4 buttons together)
6. Don't release all the buttons until you see the light indicator is blinking and then a message display on the lcd
7. release all the buttons
8. push the color button (once)
9. turn off the printer
10. turn it on again
After this one may need to reload the printer driver and locate the printer!
