SOURCE: Handspring Visor Username Deleted; How to Add on Device

To recreate your problem, I have setup the my Visor with no username, placed it in the cradle, and connected the cradle via USB port.

In this configuration, I do receive the same error message that you reported. Multiple issues can cause this error to be generated.

1. Place your Prism in the blue charging cradle. Confirm that the green charging LED is flashing or illuminated (below the power button on the Prism). If the green LED is not lit, then reposition the Prism until it is. If the green LED still doesn't illuminate then check the cradle and it's connectors for dirt and debris. Also check the copper connectors on the Prism for dirt and debris.

2. Depress the grey HotSync button on the charging cradle. The error message will appear. Press OK to clear the error display. If nothing happens when you press the grey button you need to check the copper connectors in the blue cradle and the bottom edge of the Prism for dirt and debris.

3. Check the upper right hand corner of the Prism display for the HotSync application. If any characters appear on the top line, opposite the HotSync header, then that is your username. If no characters are present, then there is no username in the PDA.

Regardless of whether there is a username in the Prism, the HotSync should still be possible. Once you successfully connect the cradle to the USB port and successfully connect to the desktop computer, a popup window will ask you to Create or Select the HotSync User.

Do you receive this popup window on the PC?

If not, your setup or connection probably has an issue.

4. Look at the Prism HotSync screen. Underneath the HotSync icon in the center of the display is a Drop Down selection. The options are
a. Direct USB/Serial
b. IR to a PC/Handheld

Since you are using the cradle, you should select option a.

Once you have confirmed this setup, you need to confirm the desktop computer setup.

5. Be sure to start the HotSync Manager Application on the desktop computer.

6. Left Click on the desktop computer HotSync Icon in the system tray, and confirm that Local USB has a checkmark beside it.

7. Depress the grey HotSync button on the charging cradle again. If the HotSync popup still does not appear on the desktop computer, left click on the HotSync icon and uncheck Local, Modem Network and Infrared and then depress the HotSync Button again.

There is a hidden method in the Prism for deleting the user name.

  • Open the Memo application on your Prism.
  • Tap New.
  • Enter the ShortCut character.
  • Enter a period '.'
  • Enter the number 5.
Whether you entered the shortcut character, period and 5 correctly or not, the characters you've entered will disappear and the memo pad will remain blank. To see if you succeeded:
  1. Depress the Grey HotSync button on the cradle
  2. Your user name appears in the upper right corner of the screen: if it's blank, then your user name has been deleted. The next time you HotSync with this device, you will be asked to create a new user name.
Note: Creating a new User name, will not affect the data stored in the Prism, other than initializing the user name.

There is a freeware application to Change the user name on the Prism, but you would need to HotSync to the desktop or beam the application from another Palm PDA to install it.

SOURCE: Can't get device to hotsync

First thought is that the cable has become defective - they do go wrong.

Assuming the visor is fine other than when hotsyncing, I suggest you reinstall the Desktop manager and hotsync manager on your PC or Mac, HAVING BACKED UP ALL FILES of course.

Sometimes the managers get corrupted and cause problems. Try that first, then check cable and finally a hard reset, assuming you have hotsynced recently and so won't lose loads of information.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MX870 Wireless Printer works with Snow Leopard OS?

The MX870 is compatible with Mac OS X, all versions. I think the CD that comes with the unit will have the Mac Snow Leopard drivers on it, but if not you will be able to download them here.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 and would like to upgrade my operating system?

Please provide more information.
To what would you like to upgrade it?

Since OSX Mavericks was just announced, I'm going to assume that's what you're wanting to upgrade to.

Not all Macs can run Mavericks.

Mavericks Capable Macs

Mavericks, like its predecessor Mountain Lion, requires one of the following Macs with at least 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of available hard drive space:
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

If your Mac isn't one of the ones listed above, you won't be able to upgrade.

If you have an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini model that was originally released in Early/Mid 2006, the latest version of Mac OS X your system supports is Snow Leopard.

Lost install disk for Mac book pro My 13" Mac book

You will need some install disks to even begin working on your issue.
Your options:
  • Find someone with the same model MacBook Pro and borrow the disks.
  • Buy a copy of Leopard (10.5) or Snow Leopard (10.6) and use them. If you are going to buy a set you might as well update to Snow Leopard (10.6)
  • Check eBay for install disks but make sure they are for the same model MacBook Pro.
  • Contact an Apple service center and purchase a replacement set of install disks.
Once you have a install CD, I would recommend backing up your system by making a disk image of the hard drive to an external drive. Then doing a clean install and then using the Migration Assistant to restore your user files to the clean install on your hard drive.

How can i reformat a mcbook pro without the original cd

If you're talking about your primary drive, you'll need to get a new CD by some means. If you give them your Mac's serial number, they might send you a new recovery disc. If you are running Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can buy a new copy of Snow Leopard for $30. Either way, you'll be able to wipe your drive and reinstall OS X.
If you are talking about a secondary drive, then you can go into Disk Utility (do a Spotlight search).
I hope this helps!

Macbook black will not start beyond the initial 'bong'. Blue screen followed by endless spinning gear. PRAM, SMV reset, no go. Safe mode can't complete. With battery or on power adapter same result....

Hello yang2699tlk,
Try this instead of using your Leopard Disc.

  1. Immediately after the "bong" press and hold down "Command + S".
  2. Wait for blinking cursor and then type fsck -y (exactly like that).
  3. If you receive an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.
  4. If you receive a "Disk has been modified" then repeat the fsck -y command until you get an "Appears to be OK" then type reboot and hit the return key.

This set of commands entered in "Single User Mode" will repair your disk. If this does not work remove the hard drive, plug it into another Mac and transfer your data to a different computer. Then install a new hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X.

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote. Thanks.

Unexpected shutdown with fresh battery ...only cycled 23 times so far. Mac shuts down after about 3 minutes....then shuts down on boot sequence after that. No warning...just shuts down instantly. Macbook...

"Shuts down instantly without warning" is the hallmark of a faulty battery. "All five lights on" is meaningless, as batteries with this fault go from 100% to 0% in a finger-snap. Assuming your battery is under warranty, it should be replaced at no charge.
