If the freezer is defrosting , then pull the refrig out from the wall , and remove the bottom rear panel . Check that the compressor and the fan are running . If both are not , then the main control board is bad . This board , is located behind the 8 " X 10 " panel , above the panel you removed for the compressor . The part number is WR55X10656 .

If you have confirmed that the unit is defrosting and the freezer isn't getting cold. Make sure underneath the refrigerator is completely clean and the fan is running underneath the refrigerator next to the coils. If this all checks out then you have a bad compressor or lost of refrigerant due to a leak in the system. One last thing: Is the cooling fan running in the freezer?

Side by side Admiral freezer freezes but fridge

check the damper vent door between the refrige and freezer and make sure its opening up to let cold air from freezer into the refrige, sometimes they freeze up and cant open and close when called upon to do so,if so deice it with a hair dryer, the side being hot is good telling you the compressor is operating correctly

The refridgerator is not getting cold

sometimes when the air flow is restricted cold air migrates back into the bottom of the fresh food side and could freeze the dispenser resevoir which is behind the crisper drawers. Also, just defrosting the freezer is only treating the symptom. Something malfunctione to allow the frost to build up. Either the heater, defrost limiter or defrost timer.

The refridgerator is cool, but not cold.....of course the same for the freezer. the freezer is running, just nor getting cold enough. food is thawing and thermostat is reading almost 40 degress in both...

Je your defrost thermostat, heaters or timer is not working correctly or at all. The freezer has the coils that freeze the freezer and cools your fresh food area. When your defrost does not work these coils become blocked with ice and will not let air from fans pass through!!! Leaving a moderate temp in fresh food area.

GE regrigerator not cooling or freezing

first defrost it by turning it off for 1\2 to 1 full day,put towels on the floor to catch the water, when a refridgerator gets frosted up it cant circulate the cold air,and if its one with the freezer on top then the cold air cant blow down into the refridgerator, check inside the refridgerator at the top where the thermostat cover is there will be a vent hole,it could have ice built up so much that its totally blocking the air flow. This usually happens when hot food is put in the refridgerator and causes steam,or the refridgerator runs too much caused by bad door seals,or the cooling fins on the back or bottom underneath plugged with dust and the freon gets too hot causing condensation inside the freezer which causes it to frost up,a plugged drain hole will back up water and freeze, the fan in the freezer may have stopped working, which is about a $60.00 part, and finally a bad defrost element (about a $40.00 part)which is a glass tube inside the freezer with a coiled up wire inside it that heats up at certain times to defrost any ice build up,(which is the last thing to check)

Whirlpool gold:upper half of refridgerator side not cold

Either the evap fan has a problem, or the defrost system has failed. You should never see frost in the freezer section as the defrost sensor should sense that the coils need to be defrosted before that much frost accumulates.

Unplugging to clean out helped because the frost got a chance to melt away.

If you find the evap motor is running, then the things to check are the defrost sensor, the defrost timer, and the defrost heater.
