Scratchy sound when playing music

Through macbook pro speakers sound starts sounding scratchy and after a while goes back to normal. seems to have to do with overall load on the system. tends to happen when there are more windows of different programs open. but also happens with few programs/windows open, which is a bit strange. in bad cases a complete crash with kernel panic happens and computer needs to be shut down. this is ANNOYING!

To fix this problem, download and install Mac OS X 10.4.8 from - www.apple.com/support/downloads.
This should solve your problem.

Let me know how it went.

Sounds like the cutout switch in the output jack is stuck open, it is a techy fix sorry (at least it is not a board failure)

SOURCE: MAC PRO dual2.3- freezes, gray screen crash,

All computers will shut them selves off or crash when fans are failing, or have failed. Cooling fans are plugged into the motherboard, and firmware on the MB keeps track of the system fans, along with everything else. If a system fan is failing, or has failed, the signal is sent to shut down. Some PC's will shut down cleanly, others give error messages, and some just freeze up. Of course, Bad RAM, video cards, and hard drives with bad sectors, can also cause problems like you have discribed.
I would write down any error messages, and beep codes, and then look them up online for a place to start.

Distorted, scratchy sound with Toshiba Satellite

OK, I would restore or recover the computer to manufacturer's original specifications and automatic update to the latest sp3.

Then, I would reinstall your virus protection and see if it's better.

Bad quality sound reproduction.

I would start by trying to replace the sound card driver - link.

If that doesn't work, it may be an issue with the speakers themselves.

Macbook Pro Right speaker isn't working

I hate to break it to you, but it sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tried going into System Preferences yet? If not, go to System Prefs>Sound>Output tab and then check the speaker balance. If the slider is in the middle, then it definitely sounds like a hardware issue.
I'm going to guess you've had your MBP for a while now, which would mean that something inside like a speaker wire could have gotten knocked around enough to just fall off, or loosen a connecter just enough to make the speaker not work. That is, of course, if it is not System Prefs. Let me know how it goes.
