Just bought new ipod nano 3rd generation for my 12 yr old and although it is charging via computor it will not sync and the help assistant doesnt pop up so im not sure what to do next. there is no disc or manual with the 3rd generation and im very inexperienced with technical things. is it possible to manually syn ipod to computor, if so how? feel like handing the thing back to be honest have spent nearly all day searching on apples support with no solution. any suggestion would be grateful
You can only sync an ipod with itunes software, it doesn't come with the ipod though.
Go here:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
On the right hand side it says itunes 7 Download now. That's the software you need to use with an ipod.
It's possible that the ipod is in disk mode and the computer thinks that it is only a storage device. You need to reset it to get it back to normal.
You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round
button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see
an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will
shut off, then back on.
Let me know if this worked.

This seems to be a big problem. I guess it's just a ipod nano problem. I have the same thing:newest itunes version, 5 solutions won't help, It's fully charged, my computer wont read my ipod nano 4GB silver 3rd gen
This just helped me and I hope it helps you I found it on the Apple website. First you have to download iTunes and then hook up your Nano. After that a registration screen will appear but you cant do anything but click register later or this is what happened to me. So here's the solution I found and it worked for me.
What you're going to have to do is go into the Control Panel on your computer.
Go into "Appearance and themes." You're going to have to change the screen resolution. 1280x600 or so should do the trick.
Go back into iTunes and you should see the "continue" button on the far right. (Very scrunched up and annoying, I know. But it works!)
I hope that helps you out it sure did this frustrated mom.
Do you have iTunes ?
you need iTunes to transfer music to the iPod.
It should've come with it.

I just got an IPOD Nano and although it charges through the computer it will not show the Setup Assist. I have no idea how to copy music onto the Ipod from my computer could you please help with this problem?
yes have itunes set up already on my computor with purchased music etc but when i plug in ipod as it wont sync with computor it doesnt recognise it at all. usb device unrecognised error shows.
I bought an ipod nano for my daughter for Christmas and I am having the same problem no setup assistant comes up. I downloaded iTunes and it has ipod nano on there but you can't do anything but eject. I have taken it off and reloaded it and I have tried to reset but nothing. I am at my wits end I spent all day yesterday trying to figure it out and I have searched the internet for solutions as well.
have already downloaded itunes but no registration process begins. have also tried the resetting of the resolution and nothing can be seen.
the computor is not recognisomg the ipod at all.
have been happily using itunes for the last month or so before i purchased the ipod nano so i know i have the correct software downloaded. the problem appears to be because when i connect the ipod an error message of usb unrecognised comes up and so the ipod is not showing on the itunes program.?????
Another very frustrated mother, pc does not recognise I Pod, when the new hardwear device comes it, it tells you thast the data is invalid, cannot sync to I tunes unless able to sync to computor first, this is driving me nuts, it seems to be a driver problem, as in device manager where the i pod shows with a big yellow question mark it also states that no driver is installed. Don't know if this is a XP problem, I Pod Problem or PC problem, have a Dell comp, all I know is don't need this to be happening at xmas time, it has spoilt a lovely present. Any suggestions to resolve ths would most welcome. It's a I Pod 3rd Generation and wish I had never bought it. Have never had this type of problerm with MP3 players
wont show up on computer and wont let me get songs on it
