My Nikon D200 just started locking when I depressed the shutter. It gave me the R25 reading in the view finder. If I depress the ae focus lock it fires. What is going on? [email protected]

Check your Custom Setting Menu, a1-a10:AUTOFOCUS.

Press Menu, select the Custom Menu Setting (looks like a pencil).
Select "AUTOFOCUS" and move to right.

a1 AF-C Mode Priority. Set to "Focus"

a2 AF-S Mode Priority. Default is "Focus", change this to "Release". This will enable the camera to fire anytime you press the shutter, regardless of if it's in focus or not. Use this setting if your having problems locking up, especially using some different lenses.

Try these settings. They may work for you.

Why are my photos blurry
I would think that you are not focusing your camera before fully depressing the shutter button Start by depressing your shutter button very lightly until you see the outline of a small square in the middle of the view finder . At that point you are in focus . Now fully depress the shutter button and take your picture . You must do this prior to taking each photo . Remember to just depress the shutter button about half way to focus your picture image , before pressing it fully . I hope this is of some help to you.

I have turned camera on and set up to take a photo and the shutter release button will not press in to take the photo. I used the camera yesterday and it worked fine!
Turn the camera on and look into the view finder while you try to press the shutter button. Check the information in the view finder to see whether you are getting an error message. If you see an error message in the view finder, remove the lens cap and proceed to take a photograph but, instead of pressing the shutter button this time, press the button near the top of the camera on the back which says "AF/AE. If the camera takes the photo it means you have somehow initiated the auto focus/auto exposure lock which the camera will not override when attempting to take a photo using the shutter button. When you use the AF/AE button, you override this system. To remedy this issue, when you get the error message try pressing the shutter button again. Also, remove the lens to see if the shutter inside has frozen in the "locked" position. If you find this to be the case you will need to contact Nikon Customer Support. Hard to pinpoint the exact problem...
What lens do you have attached? Does it have a switch for M/A and M (auto focus/manual focus)? If it does ensure the switch is in the M/A or Auto Focus position.

On the left side of the camera on the face there are 3 positions, C, S, and M. Ensure it is not on "M" for manual.

Do you have your camera setup to only allow the shutter to operate when it is in focus?

Hi,If i press shutter release button there is no responce at all. If i press and hold down the AE/AF Lock button, then press shutter release, camera responds normally with focus and flash indicator lamps...
When you press the shutter release, do you press it half-way and give the camera time to lock in the focus before pressing the rest of the way?

Err, R25 on display
The D200 uses a different way of changing the aperture than on that old lens. Set the switch to 22 and lock it with the little lock just above it. It always has to set like this. Now the D200 will stop complaining.

I have a nikon d200, lately the shutter lags 1-2 seconds.
It is probably delaying while it autofocuses.  If it is like most Canon cameras, depressing the shutter half-way should allow you to focus without taking a picture, then when the moment is right, depress the shutter button fully to take the shot.  You will want to practice this a bit to get used to it.  Shooting in low-light it can take longer to find the focus, so it becomes more necessary to use this technique.
Hopefully that helps, but I am not a Nikon user.

Auto focus does not work in the creative zone
Sounds like your custom functions have been changed to work this way. On the EOS 350 D it is Custom Function #04. To change it back to default you need navigate through Canon's menus. Here's how to get there: while in one of the creative zones go to your camera menu and navigate to the 5th tab on the right. Select “Custom Functions (C. Fn)” from this tab. This will open a submenu of numbered options. Select #04 and set it to 0: the default AF/AE lock on a half depress of the shutter. That should get your camera back to the expected auto focus with the shutter button.

I have a Nikon D200 camera. It's now 2 years old and I'm having difficulty with the auto focus. The camera focuses but it comes in and out and I have to depress the shutter several times to get it clear....
the auto focus works on the basis of contrast. If you aim your chosen auto focus square at an item that fills that square with only one color or shade of color light a blank wall or a solid blue sky the camera can't focus because it is trying to compare the contrast in order to focus the camera. try to make sure that you choose an item with contrast to aim your auto focus square on like someones eye and part of their cheek so the camera can see somre contrast to evaluate then focus. Obviously you depress your shutter half way to activate the auto focus let the camera do its thing keeping the shutter half way depressed move your field of vision to where you want it then fully depress the shutter to take the picture. the camera relys on seeing some contrast within your autofocus square in order to auto focus

Yes, the error is due to your lens not being set to highest F number. Solution : set lens to the highest number ( f 16 or f 22 ) and lock it in ( on the lens ). Your camera will work find now.

"... Autofocus Lock ("AF-L"). Pressing the AF-L (Autofocus Lock) button enables the Nikon F4 to lock the focus. Simultaneous lock of AF-L and AE-L is possible.
