Okay, that loud humming sound you are hearing is coming from the unit trying to energize the magnetron. Depending on how old your oven is, it could be still under warranty (this is covered under the warranty, trust me). If it is an older oven, like 2 years or more, you can bring it to an appliance repair facility and instruct them to replace the magnetron.

I am telling you to take it to a facility because you as a consumer cannot buy a magnetron...the federal government will not allow appliance companies to sell them to you.

Remove the case and look for a blown fuse. If found, look for a shorted high voltage diode or a shorted stirrer bearing (replace the entire stirrer)--a fan like device that is located inside the sheet metal wave guide near the entry point to the cooking cavity of the microwave energy. Be sure to use a cup of water for a 'cooking load' when repairs are made.

Usually when it doesn't het there is a problem with either the magnetron or one of the power tranistors. You would have to get a shop to tell you what the problem is as it can be a few things. If you have warrenty either maytags or from the store just find out from the store/maytag where the repair depot is. They will either repair or replace it. If no warrenty then don;t do anything without getting an estimate. It may be just as cheap to buy a new microwave.

My Maytag microwave stopped heating. Everything

Generally the magnetron (the part that heats the food) is the cause if everything else still works. Unfortunately replacing the magnetron is barely cheaper than buying a new microwave though you can check out repairclinic.com to decide whether you want to attempt replacing the part.

Let me know how this works out for you.
