That is usually a RAM card failure or its contact are dirty. Have it cleaned or use good spare to test.

But could also means other. But try this first.

Please check your video card. I gues you have a defective one. If the video card is a problem, change it with same type and model.

Sony vaio laptop half screen black on the right

Sony Vaio is one of the most prominent brands of laptops on the market, and also one of the most expensive. The laptops, created by Sony, are known for their efficient processor functionality and sleek designs. While the Sony Vaio line of laptops are considered high-end, they are also prone to display problems.

Symptoms
Among the problems facing Sony Vaio laptop screens are blackouts. When these blackouts occur, the monitor turns solid black, and upon rebooting the laptop, light will briefly flash on only to blackout again. Additionally, there have been reports of an issue which causes the screen to flicker intermittently until it goes out all together. b> Troubleshooting b> Blackout displays and the continuous flickering of Sony Vaio screens can be caused by various issues taking place inside the laptop. It is not necessarily true that the problem lies within the LCD screen itself, with display issues often occurring as a result of problems with other parts of the laptop. You can test whether or not the screen is defective by connecting the laptop to an external monitor. If the display comes up normally, then the problem lies within the laptop's LCD screen. b> Parts b> If your Sony Vaio is connected to an external monitor and suddenly goes black, then the problem may have to do with the laptop's sleep button. The sleep button latch located inside the device may be jammed or broken, thus putting the screen in a permanent sleep mode until the latch is fixed. Encountering hissing sounds when the laptop is running indicates a faulty circuit board, usually damaged due to overheating. Display issues can also occur when certain parts of the laptop, such as the hard drive, have been replaced. b> Design b> Some owners have made complaints about Sony Vaio design flaws, specifically mentioning defects in the laptop's boards. Among the problems discovered after opening the laptop include burnt LCD fuses, as well as worn out circuits and internal latches. Some of these events may occur even in newly purchased units. Sony has not yet responded to various consumer complaints and has not yet issued any recalls in response to reported problems. b> Repair b> When repairing a defective Sony Vaio laptop screen, it is important that owners remain aware of the nine screws which hold the laptop cover and the board together. Not doing so can easily lead to further damage to the Vaio due to static electricity, and may even lead to a short circuit. For owners who are experienced in the area of laptop repair, parts are readily available for purchase, allowing for cost efficient repair. b> Extended desktop You will need to connect to another monitor or your television to your computer with the vga lead monitor connection. Click start control panel display change display settings adjust resolution this may vary depending on your operating system You should see a no 1 and a no 2 with detect and identify keep an eye on the screen when you select the number tabs this may vary depending on your operating system when you select the no 2 tab this should be the extended desktop always click apply after making any changes. or Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to monitors right click select scan for hardware changes if you can get an extended desktop your monitor is faulty if you cant get an exended desktop Hope this helps.

I have a Sony VGN-CR220E. It would turn on but all I see is a black screen. The green light on the bottom lights up but all the rest won't light up anymore especially the 3rd light that would blink,...

One thing to try is if you can, connect an external monitor to the computer. Turn it off and then back on with the external monitor on. If video on the external monitor then the problem is with the laptop monitor most likely the FL inverter or the lcd itself. If no external video, it is most likely a motherboard problem.

Hi there,

In your situation, you have the possibility of several different problems.

1. Your "Screen Inverter" is failing.
2. Your screen "LCD Panel" is failing
3. The "Video Controller Chip" soldered permanently to your motherboard is failing.

The first step in troubleshooting these problems would be to take your laptop to a friend's house who is using a desktop computer with a separate external monitor. Hook your laptop up to the external monitor and see if it displays normally on that monitor. If it does, you merely need to replace both the Screen Inverter and LCD Panel of your laptop and you'll be fine.

If, however, your laptop will not display on an exterior monitor, it means that your video controller on your motherboard has failed and you'll have to either get a new motherboard installed or consider replacing your laptop.

I'll be rooting for # 1 or 2.

Kind Regards,

Selk

The screen on my laptop Sony Vaio is dark... almost black

Hi,

Troubleshoot it first by adjusting the brightness of the screen.

mongkey_9.jpg
If no change occured. Try connecting a monitor then toggle display to the monitor or both lcd and monitor.
mongkey_10.jpgmongkey_11.jpg
If the problem persists, the flex connecting the lcd and motherboard may be in bad shape already. You must contact your computer's manufacturer. This is the link.

I hope this works for you. Goodluck!

My display is damaged on my vaio laptop so I have to use an external monitor. How do I make the laptop go to the monitor BEFORE windows boots. My problem is I cannot make my computer boot up and I think I...

Hi,

Outputting to an external display is only possible through Windows. As you stated External Display works with the computer, its sure that the issue is with the LCD. Performing a System Recovery is not going to help. The screen needs a replacement. To confirm this restart the VAIO and press and hold the F2 key and check if the computer boots to BIOS, if it boots to BIOS, then the screen is fine. Based on the information you have provided, I'm sure that the LCD will exhibit the same issue in BIOS and screen will stay blank.

As far as the recovery process is concerned, if you have not changed the preinstalled OS in the computer, you can still access the VAIO Recovery partition from Help and Support. You can also access the Recovery Center following the below link: C:\Progrm Files\Sony\Recovery Center.

To initiate a service process, you can visit the http//:eservice.sony.com or can get in touch with your favorite technician.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!!!!

My laptop comes on, and the screen stays blank, (black ) nothing, I tried hooking up an external monitor but it does nothing also, could the invertor be the cause? Unit is a Sony VAIO PCG-TR3A

If the invertor was faulty you would get a picture on the external monitor, assuming that the external monitor and the laptop was configured to work. Check the Fn key and F5 at the same time. That should switch between internal/ external or both displays.

Hope that helps.

Monitor LCD of my sony vaio VGN CS 13 G/Q laptop is running blank. The monitor LCD light does not perform appropriately (its light is off. I can not read the monitor's LCD so I must add/connect external...

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

POWER TURNS ON BUT SCREEN DOES NOT

Try Holding The Screen Up to A Bright Light And Look at it from an angle to see if you can see windows running without the light.... If you can..... The Problem Is Either Your LCD Bulb (needs Replacing) or It's the Power Inverter....

If.. You See No OS Running .. Just Black You Could Need Either A New Display ... or your Video Card/Chip is Shot...
Try Connecting an external Monitor if able to..... If It SHows Up On An External Monitor then Your Video Card/CHip is Good..

If You Get No Display, But The Black Screen Lights Up.... It Is Either The Display Cable Or The Display Panel Itself....
