This is the lens focus gears. They are either knocked out of alignment, or debris has jammed them. The good news is it can be fixed....Casio most likely won't help. Hint...google my user name.
It sounds like you have broken off one of the teeth in the gearing system. I have used parts for your Casio at a reasonable price. [email protected]. Thanks
SOURCE: Zoom shutter wont extend fully
the same thing happened to me. I took my camera apart - just removing the case. I then operated my camera and it became "unstuck". now it works just fine. I put the case back on and all is just as before.

I had nearly the same thing happen to me yesterday. I turned the camera on while holding it so the lens would extend upwards to show someone how thin the camera is, and that the lens still extends pretty far. When the lens reached full length, it started making noises like the motor was moving back and forth even though the lens wasnt moving. The camera goes thru the warm up, but never focuses, and shuts down after about 10-15 seconds of making this noise. I can then push the play button to view pictures stored, and the lens will retract. I cant take pictures either, and of couse the joke is that the last person I took a picture of broke the camera....Its funny, but not that funny, as my grandmother wouldnt be happy about that statement. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks.
SAME PROBLEMS AS KIPPY 19 !!
Have the same problem. This is the second time ours has done this. Last time started working again, this time we don't seem to be so lucky. My Dad's Exilim did exactly the same and were told it needed a new motor that cost more than the original camera to repair.
