Toshiba 46In HD Rear projection TV Vertical lines on screen

Over the last several weeks, my 4 year old Toshiba rear projection TV has vertical lines on the screen when I turn in on, sometimes they disappear within 5-10 minutes, other times it may take hours, if at all. I've had cable tv people check the HD box which they advise is working ok, but I still had the vertical lines on the screen with the HD box off, . and switched to regular TV I still have basic cable coming but the vertical lines were still there. I'm confused because when the lines clear up the picture is great, but the vertical lines can start up at any time. Do you think it may be a TV problem or the Cable line coming into the TV is bad? Again, when the HD box is off, the problem still exists but does eventually clear up. I have 3 other TV's in the house, no problems on those at all at this time.

I just started to have the same problem. I bought mine in January of 2004. I initially thought it was my DVR that was causing the problem, but when I hooked up the box to another tv in my home, the picture was great. The picture is the worst when I first turn the tv on, and then it will sometimes get better the longer it's been on. The picture is also bad when I watch a DVD, another reason I think it's the tv and not the DVR/cable that is causing the problem. I described the problem to a tv repair technician (the same one that had to fix this same TV 2 years ago for another problem--thankfully it was still under our extended warranty) and he told me the repair would probably cost around $450-$500.00. I'm not sure it's worth paying that.

We have a 52" rear-projection Panasonic, and there are vertical blue lines going down the tv every 11 pixels, totaling 101 blue lines !! the lines are there all the time, watching any channel, movies, and games. Is there anything that can be done to get rid of these lines ?

I have a similar problem with 46H84 toshiba, the lines fade within a couple of minutes. However, while watching Tv it will switch to a blue screen then completely turn off. The On/Off light will start flashing. At this time the only way to get it to work again is to unplug it and plug it back in. Sometimes it works sumtimes it doesn't. Real Frustrating at times. I have a great picture (when it works) and have only had the tv about 4 years. Im beginning to believe I wasted a lot of money when I purchased it. Toshiba has had a leading name in electronics, but now, I'm beginning to wonder.

I have had the same problem with the 46H84 toshiba - while no expert, my sense is periods where we had the picture settings much higher have worn out components. The lines used to go away after an hour or so, but now can take days of leaving the TV on (in sleep mode) to make them not that noticeable (and they're still there).

I think this is different than other problems noted above - blue lines with the panasonic, etc - and knowing how much tv repairs cost, I'm unfortunately going to just replace this. Was a great TV for 4 years, but now its unwatchable for the first 10-20 minutes that its on.

We also have vertical lines with our JVC 62"... turning it off and letting it cool down is the only solution. For us, we know it's a problem with heat. We simply are wits end on fixing it. added two additional fans, a exterior fan to blow heat away from the back of the tv, pulled everything else away, etc.... Anyway, goodluck.

Toshiba 43 inch projection set

Possible bad solder connections in convergence circuit or vertical deflection circuit. This happens in alot of equipment. After warm up, expansion of joint pulls connections loose. Recommend not running like this, could cause component failure.
