I have a Panasonic DVD -VHS Recorder Model No. DMR-EX30V connected to a Westinghouse 32" LCD tv. Prior to moving the recorder to this t.v., it was connected to a Sharp t.v. and worked fine, recording, etc.
The recorder has worked as a DVD player on the Westinghouse and I have dubbed some VHS tapes to DVD with it, since it has been connected. This past week, I tried to record a tv program and got nothing but static and noise, over and over.
I have referred to the Panasonic recorder's manual and started an automatic set up twice and each time it has failed to find any channels (on cable). I then tried to do the set up manually, according to the manual, and still, it does not recognize any channels. I know that there is no code number for the Westinghouse tv in the manual and that it states that the remote may be incompatible with the tv if it it's code is not listed in the manual. I presumed that just meant that I wouldn't be able to control the tv with the remote for the recorder, sure was hoping that it didn't mean that the whole system would be incompatible. Is that the case? If not, what can I do to get it to work?

Try unplugging the DMR-E85 power cord. It is important that you unplug it from the back of the recorder, not the wall. Leave it unplugged for 10 or 15 minutes. For good measure disconnect the cable 'in' connection as well. Once both lines are plugged back in it will go through its self-check diagnostics. Leave it alone for awhile (give it time to consider the error of it's ways). If you are lucky, when you turn it back on it will ask you to verify the channel lineup. If this does work, and all the channel info is correct, press 'enter' (lineup 1 highlighted). Good luck! This is an awesome machine, WHEN IT WORKS!

I figured out, unlike all the other posts, you don't have an enter button. But Instead, you would hit the 2 and OK button at the same time for a few seconds. I had the RC1 message and I did the 1 with OK and it worked. so if you have RC2, you should hit the 2 and OK. Should work!!
SOURCE: My Dad recorded all his VHS tapes and made DVD's
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
My compliments to the foresight of your father. Your described concern is not caused by a "lock". It is indicative that the recording session was not 100% completed. Rather than 'crack', what is required is the final step in the recording. All the DVDs must be "finalized" in the same machine that recorded the movies, the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V. The finalize option would be in the MENU/Settings and must be enabled. Finalization per disc would take some time.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Your player and recorder are, most likely, on different codes. Press and hold ENTER and 2 on the remote for at least two seconds and you should be home and dry!
Good luck!
