The stereo plays normally and will not shut off it's only while watching a movie or listening to a CD. It happend tonight while watching a movie, ready to junk the system and move on. Hmmm...not sure but sounds like the vibration from the loud sound is causing the disk to jump. Not sure why that would power it off, but I think your thought to junk it sounds reasonable.

My Onkyo DV-CP704 randomly stop playing, and switching DVD's

I recently had a similar problem with my Onkyo DV-CP706...the "DVD mechanism" part was bad. I sent the unit to the ABL Electronics in Michigan and they fixed it. They are an authorized Onkyo repair center. If you're still under warranty they'll fix it for free. My unit was not, but I opted to fix it rather than purchase a new one. They will clean your unit, inspect it for other potential problems, and it will come back to you better than it was when it was new from the store.

I had a similar problem with Onkyo DV-CP706--it would play CD's but wouldn't play or recognize DVD's. Looking at other people with Onkyo problems, it looks like this is the most common part to fail on their DVD players. I had mine fixed by an authorized Onkyo repair center, ABL Electronics, located in Michigan. They said a part called "DVD Mechanism" was bad. They replaced that part, cleaned the machine and ran diagnostic checks for other problems, then sent it back to me. It now works perfectly and makes less noise than it did when it was new. If your Onkyo unit is still under the limited warranty, they will fix it for you for free. Mine wasn't, so it ended up costing just a little less than buying a new machine, but I feel like it was worth it. You never know what you'll get with a new machine, especially if you buy online.

My Onkyo DVD/CD Player CP704 plays CD's with no problem, but DVD's are a problem: I get "loading" but does not play and I get "no disc" on many occasions. What gives, any solutions? Thank you.

It sounds like you have a defective unit. I would contact the manufacturer and ask to RMA it.

No audio

Most of the time its the amps that are bad and need changing. This will be transistors on heatsink in the reciever. Part number should be on the amp.
