Coby MP-C582 Will not turn on

Hi,
My Coby Clip MP3 player will not turn on. I just got it and I has been charging for about six hours and it till will not turn on. I did upload song before it completely charged, and was woundering if that would cause it to take long to charged. Could some one help me?

    same problem.

The Mp3 player won't turn on. Once you press the on button, the led "on" light goes on for a very short time and then it goes off.

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2008

The player charged fine in computer USB port. DL the music files and the player worked...for 4 days. Then it mysteriously would not shut off. When it finally did, it would not turn back on. Assuming it needed charged, it was plugged back into the USB port but it would not charge in any position locked or unlocked, and the indicator light never came on. The reset has been pushed to no avail. Now it does nothing, merely looking like a paper clip on steroids. I understand this is a low end player...but even low end players should last more than 4 days. My guess is that this is a small piece of junk and its only use now is as a reminder of the old adage.....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. :(

my coby mp3 model mp-c582 will not play. I am trying to understand how to use it. I plugged it in to the computer and downloaded for a couple of hours; songs from the coby site. How do you know when it is fully charged? How do you play it? I held down the play button and the light came on and went off. Then I turned it off by doing the same. Then I pressed it once quickly and it came on but began to flash....? Unsure of how to use it, please advise.

You can reset it. I have met this problem, use a needle to reset it, it will be OK.

Check on the side of the player and make sure it is not locked that was why ours would not turn on. Once I unlocked it worked fine

SOURCE: Coby MP-C582 Will not turn on

These players are notorious for battery problems. Charge it all night and you just might get 30 minutes of use out of it before the battery dies. Make sure the slider switch next to the power button on top isn't in the "lock" position as the unit will not power up if it is. I recommend getting a 12 volt car charging plug for it and getting real aquainted with the tiny reset button on the battery side of it. You can get a plug for about $6 that will charge it through the usb cable that came with the player.

SOURCE: Coby MP-C582 Will not turn on

This is clearly a defective unit, since you just purchased it you should take it right back to the place you got it from and get a replacement for it. If you attempt any type of repair yourself, you will void the warranty. It should have at least a 30 to 90 day warranty, some even have a 1 year warranty.

The actual problem you have with it is not an easy one to diagnose without having it in my possession to troubleshoot it with the proper test equipment. There can be many reasons it will not turn on and can only be identified with any certainty by troubleshooting it on a test bench.

If it doesn't have a power button, then it should turn on by just pressing the play button. You should check with the owners manual you got with it when you bought it. It will explain all the features and even a couple of troubleshooting tips if it is not working normally.

Uploading a song before charging will not cause it to fail as you have described, or fail in any other way. It should not make any difference at all.

It wont turn on.

make sure that you charge it for twelve hours consistantly....once it is charge after you can hold down on the power button and the light comes on- use a paper clip and reset the player it should now work....

I had to work with mine for three days to get this working- biggest thing is the charge solid red light and the reset button (also making sure you have music already on it of course-)

hope this helps!

Reset the device and charge again. You will lose the data but the drive should work. If that doesn't work it may be the battery.

Thanks,

Player is not turning on

Sometimes I must hold the play button down for over 7 seconds on my unit to get it to turn on. See also the answer to the question on properly charging the unit; i.e, have the slide switch in the "off" position.
If you are using a USB hub to charge the mp3 player then the hub must be powered.
