PS 2 will not turn on

you probably need to manually adjust the laser lens. search on google for the how to guide for that.

Try a good clean disk

well it´s time to change the laser lens...you can force adjusting the dvd laser focus in the micro pot located under the ps2 lens...but it´s better to buy a new lens unit..

Laser needs to be replaced or the dvd drive swapped since you already cleaned the laser and the motor. You can do a search on google to see if you can pick up a cheap one or go on Ebay to look as well. You already took the steps I would have done to troubleshoot the problem.

It's not enough to use a disk to clean the laser lens. You have to take the PS2 apart and clean the lens manually. Nicotine, Incense, diffusers, and other smokes and just time itself clouds the lens. Not only that but the part that the disk sits and spins on needs to be cleaned over time as well to assure the disk is in proper alignment and Is not just kinda spinning on the spindle.

In that link i posted above you be led to directions on how to take apart your PS2 and what parts to clean. The instructions I have posted in that tutorial is for the (FAT) PS2 model not SLIMLINE. If you have a slimline model you don't have to take apart anything just open your cover and clean the parts in the video.

Your Laser is not seeing the Disc. Several reasons could be as follows:

• Dirty lens on the laser
• Bad ribbon cable not supplying power or reading the Laser.
• Major misalignment of the laser
• Motherboard Laser Driver IC burned up.

Alrighty then, you probably see now that when you get a no disc error, the fault is 99% related to the laser.

You have to clean it up and get all the dust out. Do not use alcohol on the Slim PS2 Laser. Use a q-tip dampened with rubbing alcohol to clean the lens. Dry the lens before you try it..
