you can get the code automatically by pressing set button the remote then after keep pressing the volume key while you observe the tv for response once you notice any response press the set button again.now its ok.
I got code 21479 to control power and channel up/down but it won't manage volume. That code also pulls up the menu for the TV too. Could not determine VCR compatibility since the VCR died ages ago.
go to www.remotecentral.com for list of tv codes, tv & vcr combo codes, and codes for vcrs, cable boxes, video disc players, cd players, tape decks, receivers and turners.
Sorry to disappoint you but most universal remotes would not work outright with a combo unit. You might be able to make it work for the TV but will not work in the DVD/VCR or vice-versa.
A shot in the dark, pls post back your remote's make and model.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Go to Radio Shack and get a basic universal remote, about 10 dollars. Once you program the tv with the remote you will be able to get all of the channels. The workers at Radio Shack are very helpful if you have any problems.
