SOURCE: Battery charger won't charge

Hi,
I'm sorry to say I don't know much about Olympus digital cameras, I've never had one on the bench.
I would take your camera and charger to a shop that sells Olympus batteries try a different battery first, this way you can try it out before you buy and make sure the camera and charger are working ok...

The battery is a Li-Ion, when these get flattened too far they shut down and will refuse to charge, they can sometimes be recovered by using a power supply to lift them but you must be very careful (use a 300ma wall wart at just over the rated voltage of the battery for 10 mins then put it back in the charger) as they can catch fire if over charged, shorted or connected backwards also if its been so flat it refuses to charge its certainly past its best and should be replaced as its likely it will let you down again.

On the other hand it could be the charger, so best to try and check out both before buying anything.
If it happened very suddenly and the battery was still able to run the camera for quite a while I would think a charger problem is more likely, if the battery has been taking less time to charge recently and lasting shorter times its more likely the battery..
Having said that the protection circuits can shut down a seemingly good battery for other reasons.

If you find its the charger third party (non Olimpus) chargers are available quite cheaply on ebay as are batteries

Best of luck

SOURCE: Olympus Stylus 710 Problem with lens

Hey,

Westfield46 was right! I tried the recommended fix and it worked! Thanks so much. It turned what I thought was a piece of trash into a usable camera.

SOURCE: can ytou please tell me

No

I only say "no" because an 8 megapixel camera would be taking pictures from 640x480 up to <something huge>x<something else huge>

In any case if you were to ask "HOW" to change the capture resolution, on most camera's you'd go into the camera setup menu, then into the picture quality settings, and usually choose between low, medium, and high... or good, better, best... depends on the camera, but it means the same thing =-]

Turns off when cover is closed

First don't spent too much mont for repairs, because cameras are becoming cheaper and cheaper and in the mean while better and better.
You could try to open and close the cover several times and hope it starts working as it should. It has a switch connected to it, so the camera can see if the cover is open or closed. Now it is giving the wrong information. If the camera comes on, when the cover is open, that indicates the battery is still good, unless the it stops working within a short period of time.

I have a olympus 7010 digital camera. everytime i try to turn the camera on, a orange light flashes and turns off. i've tried charging the battery numerous times.

The Olympus Stylus 7010 has a rechargeable lithium ion battery that will eventually wear out-- your battery could be at the point where it does not hold a charge any longer.
Have you previously noticed a degradation in battery life? If so, you can try replacing the battery or connecting the camera to a constant power source (like an AC adapter) to troubleshoot.

Camera turns on but immediately turns off.

battery is dying---not worn out but you'll need to buy a NEW battery. They it'll work again.

Camera turns on then immediately turns off

Quick turnoff is normally a symptom of low battery power. Make sure that you have fresh/charged batteries in the camera. If fresh power doesn't solve the problem you will need professional service on the camera.

Camera doesnt remain on

Based on the age of the camera, it's most likely due to the battery just losing its ability to hold a charge. After several years, the battery will just cease to accept a good charge, no matter how long you leave it charging. I'd suggest a replacement battery from one of the "aftermarket" battery makers (only because they are about half the price of the original Olympus battery).

Olympus Stylus 730 shuts off after few seconds. Battery is fully charged, tried a resetting: no change.

To save battery power, the camera automatically goes into sleep mode and the monitor turns off if there is no operation when the camera is turned on (when the lens cover opens and the monitor is on). No picture is taken even if the shutter button is fully pressed in this mode.
Operate the zoom lever or other buttons to restore the camera from sleep mode before taking a picture. If the camera is left for 15 minutes, it automatically turns off (the lens cover closes and the monitor turns off). Press POWER to turn the camera on.
