Hi all, spanky new, ok here my problem!! i got the panasonicdmr-e55 for xmas, 3 or 4 years ago. since then and even wheni started to use it the disc i recorded on were -R phillips 4x. since then i have tried every available manufacture of 4x's u could think of and yet to this day it will only record on a phillips 4x disc. its been in the shop a few times for cleaning and upgrades and yet they haven't beable to tell why it only accepts PHILLIPS BRAND 4X. the new upgrade i recieved fromthe manufacture was supposed allow higher in x's on disc. it accepted 16x phillips only ONE TIME AND REJECTED 50 OF THEM, SINCE THEN ABSOLUTELY NO MORE 16X OF ANY KIND. ANYONE GOT A SOLUTION????? ps even tried 8x its still a no go. i can't afford anything since i'm on social security. message: UNREADABLE DISC. SUGGEST REPLACED DISC. OK SO THIS MORNING I TRIED TDK, MEMOREX, H.P. CIRCUIT CITY, AND 6 OTHER BRANDS ALL 4X NEGATIVE R, STILL A NO GO HELP, THANKS GINA

I have an 'old' DMR-E55EB recorder with my latest two RAM discs suddenly being 'write protected' without me knowing why. Is there any way to make them work in a read, write, and erase way again? If...

Very strange, but not uncommon.

The DMR-E55 (and its variations) is a 2004 model DVD recorder, so it is over 5 years old. If you did not set write/record protection on those discs, then it is likely to be a defect within the recorder, which may require workshop attention. You can always submit the unit to an authorised service centre for a quote and second opinion, to get an idea of the likely cost(s) involved, if a fault is found, then make a decision afterwards. Up to you.

Alternatively, it might be a good idea to cease using DVD-RAM discs and use DVD-RW/+RW discs instead if the unit accepts these as a recording format (or change brand of disc), and you intend to record more than once per disc. Or you could try the same discs in your PC if it has a DVD burner which is capable of reading/writing RAM discs as well as all other formats. If that works, the discs are OK.

If this does not work, then your only other option is to take the recorder to a workshop and have a qualified technician examine it thoroughly; but be warned - it may be expensive if you decide to do so. I hope it is nothing too serious.

When trying to play a computer generated DVD +R DL, I get a message that says this type of disc cannont be played. please insert a different disc

The disc is probably an incompatible format for this model player. Even if the disc is finalised in your PC, or in a DVD recorder, this player may still be unable to read it. Some DVD recorder/players do not recognise DVD+R (or +R DL) media, while others won't recognise +/-RW discs (except CD-RW); this is a model limitation - not a fault with either your player, the PC burning software or the discs themselves.

Nothing can be done to fix this except purchasing a model which accepts multimedia (+R/DVD-RAM etc). The question is, does your player play ANY normal DVDs? I am guessing your player will accept DVD-R DL discs just fine since this is standard as well as proper shop-bought movies.

Sharp DV-RW340U will not record new dvds, give error message :E24

ensure you are using DVD-R not DVD+R discs. if what you are attempting the record is copyright protected, depending on the protection, you may not be able to record.

Can not read disc

I mainly use my DVR to record TV shows on DVD-RAM discs (Panasonic brand or Maxell). I've had no problems with the DVD-RAM discs. However, today when I put a DVD-R disc in the recorder, I got an "Incompatible Disc" error message. I tried a second disc from the same set, and got the same message. I tried out some of the DVD-Rs that I recorded last year and I could read them. Tried a DVD-RAM. That was OK. So, I tried another DVD-R disc. That one is OK. I don't know if the problem is that these DVD-Rs are getting a little old (2 years??) or if the recorder is developing its own problems reading discs.
