Card error I just bought a new SD Memory Card of 8GB. But it says "card error" when I put the camera on and I cant take any pictures. The SD Card is SD(HC)-SD4 8GB from Kingston. Do you know what the problem is? Thanks

Your camera was designed (2004) and manufactured (mostly 2005) before current generation SDHC cards became available. It will therefore be incompatible at the basic hardware level. There were some non-standard SDHC cards around in 2006 but your camera was never designed for those either.

Stick to regular SD cards, in theory your camera can handle 4GB maximum but the design team wouldn't have been able to certify compliance with that size of card as they also weren't available at the time. To be safe, stick regular SD cards with a 2GB maximum capacity.

Sorry there's no way for you to use your SDHC with your present camera but at least I hop that I've prevented you from wasting time and money on buying another incorrect memory card.

Gateway digital camera DC-T50 5.25 megapixels put new memory card and a card error message appears

The camera uses SD cards. I assume your new card is 8GB, not 8MB as you stated. If this is the case, it's an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work in the SD-only camera. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Does the panasonic DMC FZ20 take HC SD cards?

I have this camera, and have just tried putting an 8Gb SDHC card into it. As soon as I tried to take a picture I got beeping and "Memory Card Error" across the center of the screen.

I never tried this before because a gigabyte has always been plenty of space for my uses. I suppose you could just carry a few spare smaller memory cards instead of trying to fit a big one. They take up less space than film!

I just bought a new memory card (8gb) for my digital camera (Samsung NV10) and when I inserted the memory card, I kept getting "Card Error". It said I should format the new memory card and I tried to...

The largest SD card you can use in your Samsung NV10 is 2GB. thats why once you insert the 8GB sd card its shows card error or need to fromat.

FYI. for every digital camera there's a compatible memory card and you can see from the box or manual and Its writen SD or SDHC.

goodlukc and thank you

Should you use an 8gb sd memory card in a panasonic lumix dmc-fx3 camera ?

Hi,

The manual lists the following SD cards compatible:

4 GB SDHC Memory Card
2 GB SD Memory Card
1 GB SD Memory Card
512 MB SD Memory Card
256 MB SD Memory Card
128 MB SD Memory Card
64 MB SD Memory Card

An 8GB card may or may not work. If you try it, make sure it is an SDHC card. (Note: HC=High Capacity)

Thanks for using Fixya.

Why can't you use 8GB memory card in Z710

I have a kodak z710 camera with a 2 gig card in it. I was wanting to get a 4 gig sdhc and i wasn't sure if the HC would work with this camera. HC stands for high capacity which means it allows the camera to load files on to the card faster. this may be the problem the kodak may not be HC compatable. but as i have said i have a 2 gig and it works fine with that. and i have a friend that has a 4 gig in thiers but once again i don't think it is HC so i would exchange the card if you can for just a regular SD/MMC card or SD card

Loaded new memory card, and screen reads memory card error-memory card locked. Removed new card from camera, nnlocked card, inserted card again, but received same message. Please advise.

I'm guessing you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. If your camera is more than a few couple years old, it's likely it was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with older cameras.
For older cameras, you'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

I my trying to see my photos?/ Film on my computor fro ma 8gb SD/HC card can you help all othe cards work

Some machines do have problems with SD cards larger than 4Mb. Assuming you would prefer not to try buying an external card reader (which isn't guaranteed to help in any case) the best thing to do is to use your camera's internal memory to move pictures from your 8Gb SD card into the internal memory, and back to a smaller card. Your camera manual will have details on how to do this.
