There are actually three ink pads in this model, only one has a sensor and is monitored by an electronic counter. there is a long one located under the the print head as it is printing, and a small rectangular one located on the far right side of the printer and this is the one that gets used during cleaning, and it also helps to park the printhead when you turn the power off The biggest on is located on the very bottom of the plastic base of the printer. The pad you are speaking about is the rectangular one. The only way to reach this pad is to remove the upper assembly of the printer--which means you remove alot of screws the main circuit board, the plastic covers on the ends---5 quick connctors on the back of the mainboard and a total of 8 ribbon connectors--ALL CAN BE DONE WITH NO PSECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED!

A sensor WITHIN the main ink waste pad indicates when the pad is getting soaked. There is also an electronic "counter" which can be reset off of the mainboard, if you have the right software. The photomate 500 has a design limit of roughly 5200 pictures before this sponge gets all soaked up with ink. I have just been using qtips to soak up the ink. I cannot find parts **** as print heads, or inkpads to order online.

If you like, make a post here and I will share pictures I have taken (plus some pages from the service manual......

Here is the ink pad in question. when you turn the printer off this pad presses up against the printhead and locks the printhead in place. It is located just below the slots for all the memory chip on the front.

Glenn, do you have access to the Picturemate 500 service manual? I bought mine used, put in a new cartridge, and am printing blank pages. I think the printhead is clogged, but can't figure out how to get to it. Any disassembly advice is much appreciated.

Epson Artisan 835 waste pad cleaning or replacement, how?

The Epson Artisan 835 waste pad is located in the printer's waste ink compartment and is designed to absorb any excess ink that is generated during the printing process. Over time, the waste pad can become saturated with ink, which can cause issues with the printer's performance.
To clean or replace the waste pad on an Epson Artisan 835 printer, you will need to follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the printer's cover and locate the waste ink compartment.
  3. Carefully remove the waste pad from the compartment.
  4. Clean the waste pad with a damp cloth, or replace it with a new one if it is heavily saturated with ink.
  5. Reinstall the waste pad into the waste ink compartment.
  6. Close the printer cover and plug the printer back in.
It's important to note that this process can be messy and you should use gloves and old clothes to avoid getting ink on your hands or clothes. Also, some printer models may have a different process to access the waste pad, you might need to consult the printer's manual or Epson website to know more about your specific model.

Hello the team of experts i have an Epson picturemate 500 printer which shows the pad which absorb ink during head cleaning is being saturated replace the genuine Epson cartridge t557 . after disassembling...

The waste ink pad is inside the T557 cartridge. It is mounted under the top cover and is seriously difficult to clean out. You have to carefully split the cartridge along the seams (it is held together with internal clips) and then flush the waste ink pad and then get it dry. Having done that there is no guarantee that the machine will change the message as it is the result of an internal electronic count. It is possible to reset the chip on the cartridge which resets the page count with a chip-setter often available with refill kits.

How to reset counter

Waste ink pad typically captures ink waste when the printer cleans itself (print head). Resetting the counter without replacing the absorbent material can cause ink leakage and a profound mess.Epson suggests servicing the printer, but it may be more cost effective to replace it.

The printer head needed cleaning so I used isopropyl alcohol the excess of which leaked onto the pads. Can I manually empty a saturated ink pad?

They are normally quite hard to get to you might have to disassemble most of the printer. Also if you do this it might be a good idea to replace the ink soakup pads with new ones if they are too saturated.

Please advice why my epson picturemate 500 is not printing photos properly?

Take the ink-cartridge out, shake it only very lightly and put it back in the printer. Turn it on and go to the options section and run the printhead cleaner option and alignment, this might make it work properly. Good Luck

EPSON r360

Are you sure it is staurated or it just the printer showing the error. Apparently there is a usage timer in the printer firmware that will display this error after so many hours of usage. Epson has a small program to reset this error but warns that if the pad is saturated it may leak out onto you table/desk. My R220 displayed this error and I reset it with Epsons resetter program. If you are not sure of the pad, I would put something under the printer just in case it is saturated and leaks. I don't think you can buy replacement pads from Epson as they say the printer is disposable. I also don't know what material the pads are made of but I have never seen one overflo in all the years I have used Epson printers. There is always a first time so if I were resetting mine I would defininately put something under the printer to watch for leaking ink. The program to reset the ink counter is EpsonIPRUtility.A10.exe and is available at www.Epson.com
