I have a whirlpool top load washing machine model no. 6ALSQ8000JQ2. it is about 7 years old and does not have an area that collects the lint in the machine. Previously this was not a problem, but in the last several months i have been getting lint and fluff on clothes that i have had in the machine. I began disolving powder in hot water and also put small loads with large water, thinking that i had posibly overloaded the machine. None of these attempts worked and i still have lint and fluff on my clothes. My work uniforms are dark coloured and i have had to replace them due to this problem! Please help if at all possible. (I am even trying a load of water with vinegar in it and no clothes to try to flush the pipes etc, to see if this helps)

You have taken the necessary steps to reduce the lint problem. It seems they have not worked sufficiently. Another lint factor is due to HARD WATER.
You may have to disassemble the washer and remove the inner wash tub. On the bottom of the wash tub is a self cleaning lint filter. It may be gummed up with detergent and lint not allowing it to do its job. It will have to be manually cleaned.

Hello. I think this is the model..it looks

Well Bridie no there is no lint filter inside your washer the only possible explanation, is either old lint and particles are coming from previous washes. or you have just washed something recently that may have come apart such as a pillow, a mat with a rubber backing, or even a blanket with any sort of fiber material in it. It is more than likely that much of the lint that goes through your machine is unseen and can cause pump issues. hope this helps.

Thanks

I can't find the model number on washer Whirlpool Ultimate Care

Model # and info is under the lid. Open lid and look directly under it - area facing you. You should see a small silver tag with all the factory info on it. My washer is also 9 years old.

Excessive lint on clothes and smell

There is many solutions that work some. The best analogy I have seen is to reduce the wash time as the newer soaps are more efficient at removing dirt which also softens the fabric. Any excess in soap regardless of type in combination with water type will cause an odor, why is the contaminents in the water plus the junk on are clothes to be polite. It builds up under the basket and along the top water line in the tub plus creates a film from the tub through the hoses, pump and house drain. Lint is a product of excess washing and too much soap. Whirlpool stated for there front loaders no more than two TBL of liquid soap which is like 3/8 cup max for the old top loader. SearsTechToo
