It is a bit more complicated than that. Given its age it is likely that this will be uneconomic to repair, however you should take it to a TV repairer and ask him for a quote. Don't be surprised if you tells you to buy a new TV.
This plasma might have been manufactured by Chinese manufacturer using LG parts.
This type of failure is normally due to a defective Ysus board and in some cases the Zsus board fails as well.
Please provide the model number of your plasma to help you locate the service parts that are needed to fix the TV.
Many problems with Hitachi Plasmas can all be traced to a defective Y board. this would be the board on the left on most models. you can simply check the fuses on this board and if they are bad simply replacing the fuse will not fix this you will most likly have to replace the board
I finally got information from the repair shop. Apparently it is the
upper and lower panel drive. The parts are supposedly not more than a
couple hundred dollars, though I'll let you know when I get the bill. I
do want to say that Hitachi was great when I called them. Even though
my plasma is out of warranty by a few months, they agreed to pay for
parts if I pay for labor. That just might keep me buying Hitachi
products despite the issues I've had with my 2 plasmas.
