Same thing happened to me 3/29/2008. worked perfect for years. Now I just get a blue screen when I try to playback a tape. can it be fixed??

same problem with no playback and blue screen.  I think it has to do with the VTR thinking that the digital8 tape I inserted is Hi8.  Once I fixed this by removing batteries for 10 minutes, but then it reverted back and the battery fix doesn't work.  I also tried going to menu to make sure the PB Mode was set to auto, but this didn't work either.

I have the same problem with no playback and a blue screen, etc. When I was recording before this happened, I got a message to use a head cleaner. I got it to work long enough to record by taking the tape out and putting it back in. It played for awhile but now I have the blue screen. I used the cleaner with no luck. Any suggestions?

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a D8 digital camcorder which is not compatible with Hi8 camcorders.
You need to have an Hi8 camcorder or DCR-TRV103 or similar camcorders that backward compatible with Hi8 camcorders.

Can I use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes in my DCR_TRV250E?If so would I be able to playback recorded tapes on the UK televisions?.

DCR-TRV250E is a PAL version camera of the Digital8 format.
Yes you can use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes. The camera will record a PAL digital picture on the tapes which means that you can play back the tapes in PAL and therefore you will be able to playback recorded tapes on UK televisions because they are also of the PAL format.

Having problem with sound playback from TDK Metal 8 tapes

I don't remember where I read it, but somewhere like this site.
Just as you start the play back, give your camera a bump with the heal of your hand. This has worked a couple times, and the issue seems to be with just the metal tapes. My husband was a bit appalled until it worked. It might not solve the issue long term, but I was wanting to recover baby footage so I wanted to just get it done.

Hi8 Playback Problem

Clean the tape heads and see if that makes a difference.  If that doesn't work, it could be the tape motor is going out.  Thats typical behavior when that happens.

Blue screen on playback on Sony DCR-HC40

You can see an image in a camcorder viewfinder any time the camera's actually on in record mode, whether or not the camcorder is actually recording. So that's no guarantee.

Assuming the obvious (you have the right kind of tapes, they're not in write-protect mode, you rewind before playing, etc). I recommend that you borrow a tape of the same kind from someone else and check it on playback in your camcorder. This should lead you know understand if you have a playback problem or a recording problem.

Imovie imports Hi8 tape but not plain 8 tapes

What it is, is the standard 8mm tapes are not digital, and therefore won't import into imovie, unless you have the 8mm to Hi8 option enabled in playback mode, by setting it in the menu, under playback settings.
