Maxtor 3200 300 gig. Drive is not recognized via

Maxtor 3200 300 gig. Drive is not recognized via my sony vaio laptop pcg-k25. I have already uninstalled the driver. I have detached the device. I can hear and feel the drive running. There is a faint beep every 5 seconds or so. I cannot access my data! Please help me.

This sounds very much like there is not quite enough power getting to the drive to fire it up.
I use a usb lead that has a second plug on it to supply extra power (similar to the lead supplied with the e220 dongle) and that gets round the problem.

Reboot the laptop, reseat the cables, and try connecting the drive to different usb port. if that still doesn't work, most likely the drive has gone bad.

You could purchase a USB hard drive in a caddy or Flash drive and put some of your stuff on it to give you more space or purchase a replacement drive. 180Gb drives are as little as ... well take a look on ebay!

Hi,

This laptop has its own graphics card that doesn't rely on system memory for the graphics.

There should be no reason why its not detecting all 1GB of ram that you have installed.

Open the ram cover and make sure that you have clipped the ram into place properly.
