How to replace Dell Inspiron 1520 inverter, i.e. get old one out, determine Part # (& order), and put new one in?

Remove the battery from its compartment on the side of your Dell Inspiron laptop computer.

Remove the power adapter from its plug on the side of the Dell Inspiron (if your laptop is currently plugged into a wall outlet).

Press down and hold the "Power" button on the laptop for one to two minutes. This will dispel the excess electrical current that is built up inside the laptop.

Put the battery back inside the compartment of your Dell Inspiron.

Plug your power adapter back into the side of the Dell Inspiron. Press "Power." Your laptop computer will now turn on.

I'm not sure how you checked the PSU but it is often the case that the voltages measure correctly but the PSU still will not work in the computer. I had one recently.

I would buy a new PSU and replace it. If it still does not work, you can return the PSU. Unless you have a complex PSU tester, I would put my money on the PSU being defective.

no this is not a defect this would indicate that the power supply has failed on your pc.. look at the back of the unit if the power supply light is amber in color or blinking thne there is your issue.

You have a inverter circuit that is malfunctioning and needs replacement if it is on the mother board the mother board may need replacement . There also may be a failing video card.

This is due to dry solder in the circuit. Check and repair the same with the help of expert engineers/Service center experts.

Try reseating the cable that goes to the back of the lcd and also the other end of that cable that plugs into the motherboard. If that doesn't do it then either the lcd or the inverter is bad. Either way when you get a replacement screen for a dell laptop it normally comes with a new inverter as well. If your laptop is under warranty thru dell then you can get it replaced thru them. If you have your serial number then I can look it up and see if your system is still under warranty.
