Hi Mr

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones. Now after you've recovered your photos, consider formatting the card in the camera to prevent this from happening again.

I bought a new memory card, but the camera says memory full

Make sure the camera is capable of using a high capacity card. If it is then make sure you format the card. If thats not it then maybe the card is faulty. Have you any friends with cards that you could try..

After taking 20 photos says memory card is full

You did not mention the make or model of the camera. Your symptoms seem to indicate you are using internal memory rather than the card. Card typically hold from 200-2,000 high quality photos (depending on the size of the card and the camera).

Another possibility is that you have a high end camera and are shooting in the RAW format. RAW is only for the more experienced users who post process their work. If this is the case switch to JPG.

Note reducing the picture size only makes the pictures lower quality and is only useful if you only post them on the web.
