I have a Sony Wega 55" LCD rear projection tv that is about 4 years old. There are about 20 blue dots appearing in the center of the screen as well as a blue streak across the bottom. Is this just a bulb problem or something else. Thanks
Blue streaks might have been just your video connection and problem with signaling. But, blue dots is faulty light engine, aka "optical block". The engine in this could be a defective LCD array. Very expensive, a optical block is about $850. Hope it's still under warranty. You could get a rebuilt one, possibly. Need service adjustment too. Bad problem that Sony has with these kinds of sets.
After 4 years use the Warranty is probably out too. Probably should just buy a new TV set, instead of repairing this set..
In case you decide to fix this yourself. I'd much rather you unplug, and check the optical block section first, and check out any other components in the area for signs of damage and a strong burn smell.
The (Lamp Power Supply Block), aka. "lamp driver", also should be checked for damage.
Once that is done and no damage is found try replacing the lamp. This may be the problem even though signs of other problems are evident, I have seen where replacing the lamp fix the problem.
The lamp part number for KDF55XS955 is Manufacturer Part #:XL2200U or A1085447A or A1060818A.
Installation requires a 3mm Allen wrench for the lamp and is not to hard to install. Make sure the power cord in not plugged in to the wall socket.
Eventhough compatible could you specify if your TV is the 55", or 60". It's state 55" on the posting but, is in the 60" section.
