Hi
I have a dell inpiron 530, brand new. There seems to a problem with the dvd rom drive. It wont recognise there is a disk in there. However it does work for some cd roms it doesnt work for Dvd roms. Is this a region issue? How do i know what region the games are? If not, any ideas?
Thanks
Try these steps:
1.Go to Start>Run and type regedit.Than go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CURRENT CONTROL SET>CONTROL>CLASS>{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and remove the upper and lower filter.
2.Go to start and right click on my computer and than click on manage. On this creen go to the option which says Device manager and look for the option for the cd drive.Expand it and than right click on the option it gives you and uninstall it.After that close everything and restart the system.
3.Also similar way you can remove the primery and secondry channels in the device manager.
I found this link while desparately looking for a fix that Dell could never resolve. You are awesome!

cd/dvd drive does not recognize that cd/dvd is inserted. The message "insert the CD/DVD" continues even I took the cd/dvd out and re-inserted it again and again. I went Divice manager and checked trouble shoot. It says device is working.
Computer says "missing program" to read dvd.
I called Dell today (Mumbai) and they will call me back...
Dell Inspiron 530, less than a year old. DVD burner plays DVD but will not recognize CDs, whether CD-R, OEM, or store bought program.
