Top Loader? That sounds like a gearbox problem. It is not an easy fix. With that much use and those many years, it is probably time for a new one. A new High Efficiency Front Loader, will save you a fortune in water, electricity and detergent.
Try this forum though if you want to try and get it fixed.
I would check the pump before anything else. The reason is because there is only one belt that actually goes around the motor, transmission, and the pump itself. You can lean the machine backwards and have access to the belt and the pulley to each one of the parts listed. The belt can be rolled off and once that is done each pulley should be able to turn smoothly.
Similar issue for MAVT446AWW machine. Tech ordered a brake, rotor, belt and thrust bearing. I had a service contract with Lowes and they elected not to fix as too expensive. Gave me a store credit for a new machine.
My Maytag Performa makes a grinding sound when it agitates. When it starts to dump the water it makes a loud grinding on metal sound... really loud. What is the problem and how much to fix?
Hello, If its making a loud squeeking/scraping noise, in my maytag that i
repaired, the problem was the waterpump. If you turn the washer on it's
side, you will see that it has a belt with three pully's on the bottom.
One pulley is connected to the waterpump and right where the pulley
meets the metal plate it's connected to, there should be a gold
coupling. This coupling sometimes comes loose and scrapes the metal
plate on spin cycle (when the pulley is spinning) which causes the
scraping/squeeking sound. If this is the case, you will see where the
coupling has scraped a groove into the metal plate. The coupling will
eventually catch while spinning and break entirely. The cheapest new water pump is $80.
the problem is with its motherboard .. i too had the same problem..
ask the repairing persons to change the motherboard if it is warranted. ( but there is no other way)..
Is it a maytag? My maytag front load washing machine had 2 long bolts with plastic braces on them, to keep the drum still during shipping. Mine would bang and shake all over. I got the book out before I finally figured it out. I had to take the back cover off and remove the bolts and plastic braces over them. They look like they' 8 inches long or so. It works great now.
