It'll cost you about $100-150 to have the display repaired - balance that
against the cost of a new panel. If it' was a 15" or 17" panel it may not
make much sense to have it repaired - iand its 19", it might.

To me it seems like you should try replacing and reinstalling the new driver, undermentioned are the useful support links from Gateway, please follow them, these will help rectify the problem. Let me know.

There is a weird possibility that somehow your PC is configured to save power.. that is something you can do on a laptop to save battery..
you can check in the control panel what is the status of your energy options and see whats going up there..
there is also another possibility that it might be the monitor to be malfunctioning... but if after the screen being dark and you enter the options on the monitor and they are bright i doubt its a malfunctioning monitor..
so try to reinstall the monitor drivers and possibly the drivers of your video card if you have one.. but my biggest bet would be the option energy in the control panel
