Yes, but you need a special remote control inorder to do it.

Panasonic dealers have them, but will charge a lot to do it.

Alternativeley, eBay list some.

Panasonic's cannot be made multi-region by a sequence of keystorkes/codes on the normal remote like many other brands can.

L.S. How to reset Panasonic DMR-EH55 DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder to factory settings?

You can either go into menu (pressing 'FUNCTIONS' button on remote) and look for 'RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS' or similar heading, or you can (while unit is on) on the front of the unit (not the remote) press CH UP and CH DOWN buttons together for 5 seconds - the unit will switch to standby. Give either one a try. (refer to page 60 onwards in your user manual - these pages detail 'settings').

If you cannot find your manual, it is available for download (free) - http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/Operating-Instructions/model.DMR-EH55S.O#ts

I hope this helps in some small way. Thanks for asking FixYa!

My dmr-eh55s will no longer transfer from the hard drive to the DVD in the high speed mode. It will in low speed mode (real time).

It sounds like the DVD-RAM drive is about dead. Panasonic did not make them to be very durable.

Panasonic sells replacements at a high cost.

Replacement drives may work from used models including:
DMR-ES15
DMR-ES25
DMR-ES45
DMR-ES46

Need the Panasonic DMR-EH55 remote control code for a universal remote

Different Brand remotes use different codes for devices. Usually you can find web sites for your particular brand remote and get codes there.

Can the Panasonic DMR-EH55 be made to receive digital channels? e.g. via a digital capable TV or a set top box? If not, I suspect it will be obsolete when analogue channels cease this year (in Australia)

If you receive your channels through your local cable company, nothing will change. The DMR-EH55 will continue to work normally.
If you receive your channels with your rooftop antenna you'll need a Digital to Analog TV Converter Box. The unit itself will not receive digital signals directly.
