I have a scan button but it always reads "usb not connected". It is connected and print. I have tried connecting it to several ports. I turn off the computer and restart. I turn off the printer and back on. I have tried everything. Sometimes it will scan but most of the time it will not.

Hi

To resolve this issue I need to know the operating system, but however as you did not provide it I will assume your operating system to be Windows XP and provide this below troubleshooting steps.

Solution:
-----------------
Step 1.

Try copying form front panel and if copying doesn't work, check for the hardware issues with the scanner. If copying is fine then perform below steps.

Try scanning from Windows internal scanning drivers to confirm if the All-in-One is detected in the computer or not.

Step 2. Scan using WIA
-----------------------------------
To isolate the issue I suggest you to try scanning from the Windows Image acquisition (WIA) wizard on the computer.

Follow the below steps to Scan using WIA
1.Verify that the all-in-one product power is turned on and the printer cable is properly connected.

2.Click Start then Click All Programs then Click Accessories then Click Scanner and Camera Wizard.

3.Follow the Scanner and Camera Wizard instructions to scan images to the computer.

If the scanning is successful, proceed with step 3. If scanning was not successful then I request you to perform the step given in step 4 and then perform step 3.

Step 3: Manually check for Digital Imaging Monitor and populate the destination list
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The digital imaging monitor must be running for the scan to function to work. The digital imaging monitor normally appears in the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the computer screen, next to the time.

If the digital imaging monitor appears in the system tray, go to the section Populate Destination List.

Please follow these instructions to resolve Scan from Front panel of All-in-One unit issue:

1. Click the Start icon.

2. In the Start Search text box located above the Start icon, type msconfig and then press Enter.

3. On the User Account Control window, click Continue. The System Configuration window displays. Click on the Startup tab.

6. Search the list for the digital imaging monitor, the file name will be hpqtra08.

7. Recheck the box for hpqtra08.

8. Click Yes to restart Windows.

NOTE: If hpqtra08 is not on the list in the Startup tab, this indicates that the driver was not correctly installed. Uninstall and reinstall the driver.

9. Populate the Destination List with following steps:

a. Open the HP Solution Center.
b. Click on Settings --> Scan Settings --> Button Settings.
c. In the window opened, select "Scan to button" tab
d. Click the Destination List tab.
e. Click on each of the programs you want to appear in the scan to list.
f. Click the Add button. This moves the selected programs to the Front Panel Destination List.
g. Click OK.
h. Now try the scan to function from the all-in-one.

To save the above changes I request you to perform steps given below as Dest test.

Perform the dest test:
----------------------
1. Close all applications including HP Solution Center.

2. Open and run the DESTTEST file from the location:
C:\Programfiles\hp\digitalimaging\bin\Under Destination:

a. (Optional) Set the Category for the Destination List scroll
down menu on WEB_APP.

2. On the 5th option "Close Dest Test After sending to Destination", put a check mark and click on Save Results Before Exit.

3. Click on Exit in the bottom.

4. Now Open the HP Solution center, Click on Settings -> Scan Settings & Preferences -> Scan To Setup.

5. You will see all Button settings on the right side under the front panel destination List. In Case If not, click on Restore Defaults, click on Apply and click on Ok.

6. Push Scan To button on the unit you will see all the Destination List on the unit. Select the appropriate one.

Yours Sincerely...
Roger

I,m running windows7 and using a lexmarl X7170 printer i keep getting a can not communicate message i've uninstalled and reinstalled several time HELP

Check your cables and ports. The most frequent issue is a bad cable so try a new one. Next try plugging into a different port. If you have a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection. (Scanning is more sensitive to a problem with the connection but the printer can also have issues.)

Check if a known working device works in the computer. (You may want to check if the USB ports are powering down for security or power savings. Check the device manager for the first and the advanced settings from the Screen Saver for the second.)

I hope this helps.

I cannot get my photosmart c5580 to scan I select scan, start can, scan to comuter and get an error says for me to start scanning from computer

What OS do you have? Do you have the full-featured software installed? If you only have the driver that was built into the OS, that is a generic driver and will not read the buttons on the all-in-one for scanning.
If you plugged in the USB cable before installing the full software, you get the generic driver. Uninstall that driver, unplug the USB cable, and install the full software. Check for updates for your software.

If you have a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection. Often these interfere with the bi-directional communication that allows the computer to see the buttons being pressed.

If the full software is installed, check if the image monitor program is loaded and running. That listens for the activity of the buttons and they will not work if the service is stopped.

Software and drivers:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3575276&

If you can't launch the scan from the computer, then try a new USB cable and a different USB port. As above try a direct connection if you have a USB hub or print server between the computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

My printer will print and copy but won't scan. It

First, do you have the full-featured version of the software installed (installed on the computer before connecting the printer to the computer)? Second, do you have the all-in-one connected to a print server or USB hub? These can block the two-way communication needed for scanning. Try a direct connection. Also try a new USB cable and a different USB port (if you have any signal loss issues, it matters more with the scanner).

I hope this helps.

How to scan soemthing onto a computer

Do you have the full-featured software driver installed? (Installed before connecting the printer to the computer.) Then you have the option of initiating the scan from the computer or the buttons on the unit. (The HP Digital Imaging Monitor Windows System icon should be in your system tray. If the program has been closed, restart the HP Image Zone software or reboot the computer.) There is a Start Scan button on the printer which should launch the HP software. Alternatively, start the Image Zone software and there should an option to start the scan.

These directions will only work if the computer and printer are both on and communicating with each other. If you get an error, try a new USB cable and try using a different USB port. If using a USB hub, try connecting to the computer directly. (If using a print server, try a direct connection. Check if the print server supports bi-directional communication; many only support the print functions not the scan options.)

I hope this helps.

Try to scan using 1 touch, and after 10 seconds of "connecting" message reads "failed to connect"

You can go into the maintenance area under machine status and change your USB speed, then try replacing your USB cable.

or
Make sure the Xerox machine is the only bi-directional USB device that is connected to the computer so that signals from other devices are not interfering with the communication between the machine and the computer.
If necessary, disconnect all other bi-directional USB devices (excluding a keyboard and / or a mouse) such as printers, scanners, digital cameras, zip drives or USB flash drives that are connected to the computer via USB and then try to scan again.

NOTE: This solution assumes that the print driver for this product and the operating system you are using has been downloaded and extracted to a known location on the hard drive. If you have not already done so, click on the [Drivers & Downloads] link under the Product Resources section on this window to download the print driver.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the WorkCentre.
  2. Remove the print driver from the computer. See the Related Items below for additional information.
  3. Connect the USB cable to the WorkCentre. Windows will recognize the WorkCentre as new hardware and the New Hardware Wizard will be displayed.
  4. The Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software window will be displayed. Select [No, not this time].
  5. Select [Install from a list of specific location] from the location options provided.
  6. Select [Search for the best driver in these locations]. Click on the [Include this location in the search] check box to insert a check mark, and then click on [Browse]. Browse to the folder where the driver files have been extracted to. The default location is c:\enxppcl6.
  7. Click on [Next]. A 'Please wait while the wizard installs software' message will be displayed.
  8. When the installation is complete, click on [Finish].
  9. click on the [Start] button, click on [Settings] (if necessary), and then click on [Printers and Faxes]. The Printers and Faxes window will be displayed.
  10. Right-click on the new WorkCentre printer icon, and then click on [Properties].
  11. Click on the [Ports] tab.
  12. Make sure the port selected is a USB port. If another port is selected, such as LPT1, select a USB port and click on [Apply].

Can't print or scan through USB port on Canon imageRUNNER 5070.

The port should be active. You can look for problems by right-clicking My Computer and then Properties. Under the Hardware tab, press the Device Manager button. Any hardware issues will show either a question mark or exclamation mark, disabled items with a red x. After the printer is connected, turn it on, then go to Start -> Control Panel. Here, go to add hardware. See if this finds it.

If not, have you added the printer after connecting it via USB under Start -> Printers and Faxes? What about inserting the installation CD before connecting the printer?

I am trying to scan photos onto the computer

How is it connected? Via usb?  Have you tried powering the printer and pc off and back on?  Try to print something, go into your print que and make sure that there are no errors.  If using usb, try another port if you have one.  Also check your ink levels.  HP AIO wont work with low ink levels.
