Sony Cybershot 10.1 DSC-N2

A great camera.  Went to use it, and when turned on, it reads: "Turn the Power Off and On Again".  I have done it many times, changed the battery (which is fully charged), and no results.  The lens comes out, and I can download pictures, but cannot take any pictures.  Please advise.  Craig Burton

I have the same problem.  I tried gently pulling on the lens as well as holding down the power button for 60 seconds.  Neither of these fixed the problem.

when I turn it on it tells me to turn power off and on again.

We do have the same problem and we have already tried all options, but none worked

I also have exactly the same problem and no solution yet. 5 users with the same problem in 2 months?

  • Anonymous May 14, 2008

I have the same problem and none of these solutions worked. I took it to the a camera repair place and they said i needed a new circuit board. I can hear it trying to do something, so ill keep smacking it.

    Hi,

Had the same problem with my camera, which is a year and a week old - warranty just expired!. I could not apply the solutions of pulling out the lens, as the lens was not advancing out at all. There wasn't any motor sound at either - it seemed dead. I sent an e-mail to Sony and they replied that they had not heard of any such problems and that the camera would need to be taken for repairs (at a Sony authorized dealer - of course!).

Out of desperation (and since I could not kick it!), I tapped the entire camera on the table twice - and low and behold - the lens popped out and everything seems to be working fine now. Go figure!

I just sent off a nasty e-mail to Sony including my solution to my problem in case they want to pass it along to their other customers who experience this problem (fat chance of that). I will certainly think twice before purchasing a Sony camera again, and it's a shame since the camera does take really nice photos.

Thanks to all of you who offered suggestions - you inspired my solution!

Same problem here. I get the turn on/off message and the lens will not come out. I was told it would cost $251 to fix. Mine as well buy a new camera. It is only a year old

  • batwood1946 Nov 23, 2008

I too, had the same problem. I love my camera, but out of the blue, just two days ago, the lens refused to open. My husband, who can normally fix just about anything, disassembled the camera, tried everything he could think of, and declared it a rare defeat. I burst into tears! I decided to do a google search and after about 45 minutes found all you people with the very same problem. I took a deep breath and tapped my camera on the counter a couple times. Immediately, the lens came out!  I am flabbergasted - and when I showed my husband, he was speechless! However, he then remembered that a couple years ago, our daughters' Ipod wouldn't work and she read somewhere that someone else in frustration held it above his desk and let it drop, and it fixed the problem. She tried it and it worked for her as well! Amazing!  Thanks, everyone.

DSC N2 :The switch off switch on and "Accessing" message with the beeping was so annoying. As the lens came out, I held it in place and turned the camera off, I could feel the motoor pulling (three times ) and gently resisted the retraction. the camera turned off with the lens out. When I turned it on the problem was resolved (hopefully permanently). €z

Solution #3 worked for me. I held the lens open as the camera was shutting off. Then when I turned it on, the "access" and "turn camera off and on again" problem was fixed. Thanks so much for posting! Saved $$ on sending it to Sony to repair!

WOW! my Sony DSC-N2 broke a couple of weeks ago with the EXACT same problem saying "access" "turn power off and then on" and I was sooooo upset because I had spent ages saving for it! I was literally about to take it to the repair shop and came accross this question! and everyone saying smack it against the table. AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS! :) like I didn't want to do it incase it broke more but IT WORKS yayyy! :D I'm so happy now ha! just smack it on the table a couple of times don't worry about it breaking :)

I have the problem of "access" then turn off and on again.
I removed the battery, memory card and tapped it hard in my hand and it worked perfectly again!

OH MY GOSH!!!  I had the SAME problem!!!  I tapped it on the table and it worked!!!  I didn't want to do that, because my husband would be so mad if I broke it even more!  However since several people tried it, I thought I would.  THANKS!!!  It works!

Ok so....I had actually went to the beach today and then dropped it in the SAND. AAAGGHHHH! I got the same message as you all. I took it home and could hear some sand in the lense as it opened. I tried smacking on the table a couple of times. It worked!

Hey i had the same problem, and while i really dont suggest it i found that if i pushed in on the lense a little bit the lens got back on track and everything seemed to be ok.

My Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 touchscreen will not work.

if the initialize and calibration settings cannot be accessed if the touch screen is not responding, try to power reset the camera: turn cam off, remove the battery, make sure the cam is not connected to an optional ac adaptor, set mode switch to play, press and hold down the power button for a minute, let go and turn cam mode back to off, reinsert battery and turn cam on. if touch screen is still not working, unit may require service. hope this helps. thanks:)

Turn off and on again.

you should have dropped your camera down hard. you should replace your lens array from the nearest sony service center. it costs about 60$.

Sony CyberShot DSC-N2 - Unable to read memory card

Before anything else.... you must examine first if your card is not damage, How? Try to test it in the memory card readers or other camera that fit the same memory cards.
Some other cards do have lock option in the jacket of the card. Try to unlock it. After doing so reformat the memory card in to your cam.

Other option...... Some other cam do have internal memory, if you have the same, configured it out.
