I keep getting this same error e 5!!!
I have put in new cartridges (not refills)
I still get the same problem.
I tried all the suggestions on related to the MP160, but nothing has happened.
What I did notice was that when I do lift the top cover the cartridge carousel does not move to the cartridge release bay? Can this be a problem?
Thank you!

Try this:
1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power LED is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4) When the LED lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button 4 times.
I have an MP160 which is now over 7 years old and still going strong. I refill my own cartridges and sometimes get the E5 error after refitting a cartridge. More often than not this fix works for me.
With both cartidges fitted and the printer turned on, open the printer top and wait for the cartridge carrier to move left then right. Immediately it begins to move to the right, quickly push the carrier with your finger as far to the right as it will go and close the top. If you hesitate too long and the carrier starts its travel to the far left, close the top and wait until the whirring noises stop and try again. That usually clears the E5 error.
If it doesn't, open the top, wait for the carrier to park in left position and remove and replace both cartridges. After refitting, give each cartridge a gentle wiggle to help ensure that all the electical contacts are properly seated in the carrier, then close the top.
Note that if the cartridge is faulty, in my experience the E5 cannot be eliminated.
You need to replace cartridges holder assembly

yupp, me too. I got the camera only two days ago.
Same problem! E5 error. Had both ink cartridges refilled. ICM did not reset, worked well until monitor hit empty. Can't even use scanner. Tried turning off monitor...tried several other suggestions from net, printer still not working.
Sick of being ripped off...they are not selling printers they are selling ink. I will never buy anything Cannon again.
Any suggestions how to fix?
Thanks

error 5
Yep Flashing cart lamps E-5 error, no print...So bottom line from whatI read here is to TOSS the piece of JUNK out as the carts themselvesare badly manufactured (force user to buy the manufacturers ink cartsto make more profit. The printer is just not worth it! Maybe we shouldget up a class action suite against Cannon for killing all refill usefor this printer. Seems to me that is a Clayton or Sherman actantitrust suit. Anyone a lawyer out there?
