Hello, I just bought a canon zr45 today off a friend without the owners manual. I had the same problem. It is flashing because it needs a new 3 volt lithium battery. This is a back up battery. It is located underneath the regular battery pack. Take the regular battery pack off and you will see where it goes. I changed mine and it doesn't do it anymore. It shouldn't show up on your recordings. It didn't on mine. Also, you can download an owners manual for free off the internet. Just key in canon zr45 owners manual and you will see links that will take you there. I hope this helps.

Red light blinking won't accept tape

If a tape "hung" up and it won't accept one you have a loading issue.

The unit may use a belt to drive the tray or a geared mechanism.

In any case someone needs to open the unit up to "see" what is happening. Most of these a tape can be inserted with power off and manually cycled into the unit to see the issue---we usually use a old cassette with the tape inside removed to avoid issues.

If you cannot do that consider looking for a shop who will (some no longer work on this type of equipment.)

My canon zr45mc will sometimes not rewind mini dv tapes and an "eject cassette" message will appear over and over - sometimes my tapes have been eaten. I thought it needed a cleaning so I bought one of...

This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly or a defective clutch in the take-up spool and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. Canon zr45mc chews tapes and cleaner cassette.

This happens because the "Pinch Rollers" are faulty. They will most likely have to be replaced. The ONLY thing that can be done, due to the delicate and complex nature of any DVR, they MUST be returned to a Canon, authorised, service center. Then ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any repair.

Recording from the Mini DV to VHS Tape

Mini dv is a digital recording and VHS is analogue so they are incompatible. Does your camera have an analogue output? That is a lead that ends with something like RCA plugs or a Scart plug. Then you can feed the signal into a VHS recorder.
