Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. There are two step-by-step procedures to resolve the issue—

Procedure 1

  1. Turn off the printer and ensure that the print head is at its home location and locked in place as normal;
  2. Power off the printer at the wall or by removing the power cable for at least 20 seconds;
  3. While you restore power to the printer at the wall socket or by reinserting the cable, if the lights come back on straight away, the printer’s power switch was ‘on’ - switch it off and return to step 1;
  4. Hold down the paper-feed button and the button with the ink-drops next to it, and then turn on the printer, still holding the buttons down;
  5. When the paper-out LED flashes, release the buttons;
  6. Press and hold the Cleaning button, until several lights flash - this will take a few seconds then release the button;
  7. The printer will now attempt to reset, including resetting the EPROM memory and running a short (about 10 seconds) cleaning cycle.

Procedure 2

  1. Turn off the printer and ensure that the print head is at it’s home location and locked in place as normal;
  2. Hold down the paper feed button only;
  3. Turn on the printer;
  4. As the paper feed light starts flashing, release the button;
  5. Immediately hold down the ink-drops button for some 10-20 seconds or until the printer springs into life;
  6. Allow printer to complete its processing then turn it off for a few seconds and turn it again on.

By following the above any one of the step-by-step procedure, the printer will start printing normally.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Based on the lights you are already out of one or more ink cartridge or an ink cartridge is not being recognized/expended.

-You cannot print if any ink cartridge is expended.
-Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement.

Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.

1. Open the printer cover and press the INK REPLACEMENT button, located under the printer's cover. The print head moves to the center and the lights flash.

2. Lift up the ink cartridge clamp. The cartridge rises up from its holder.

3. Remove the cartridge and dispose of it carefully. If ink gets on your hands, wash them with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.

4. Unpack the new ink cartridge and remove the yellow tape. You must remove the yellow tape from the top of the cartridge. Do not remove the clear seal underneath the cartridge. Do not touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge, or you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

5. Tilt the new cartridge toward you slightly as you insert it. Lower the cartridge so that the tabs rest on the hooks. Do not place the cartridge tabs under the hooks.
.
6. Press down firmly on the ink cartridge clamp until it snaps in place.

7. If you need to replace the other ink cartridge, repeat steps 2 through 6 before continuing with step 8.

8. Press the INK REPLACEMENT button and close the printer cover. The printer begins charging the ink delivery system.

9. Wait until ink charging is finished (the power light stops flashing and the red error light goes out).

SOURCE: The light below the power

Use the following steps to clear out the print queue.
NOTE: This document is specific to USB products only. Before you proceed with the following troubleshooting steps, ensure that your hardware is fully functional by printing a self-test page. Refer to the product documentation to get information on printing a self-test page. If the self test does not print correctly, and if there are other symptoms, refer to the documentation specific to those symptoms.

Step one: Restart the computer
Click Start .
Click Shut Down .
Click Restart or select Restart from the drop-down menu, if available.
Click OK .
Check the print queue once the machine is restarted.
If this step does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step two: Check the printer cable
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
Leave the cable unplugged for 5-6 seconds.
Reconnect the cable to the printer and computer. Ensure that the printer is connected directly to the computer through a USB cable or a powered USB hub.
After reconnecting, the printer should start printing the jobs in queue. Go to step five, if you want to stop those jobs from printing.
NOTE: If the printer is connected through a non-powered USB hub, or if the type of hub is unknown, connect the printer directly to the computer.

If this step does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step three: Check for the right driver and port
If there is more than one printer configured on the same computer, the printer in use may not be the default printer, or the wrong driver may have been configured. Use these steps to verify the driver configuration:
Click Start .
Click Control Panel .
Click Printers and Other Hardware , and then choose the printer from a list of installed printers on the left menu.
Ensure that the correct printer is set to default, denoted by a checkmark in a black circle on the icon. If the wrong printer is set to default, right-click the icon for the correct printer, and then click Set as Default .
NOTE: The correct printer must be selected from within the application that is issuing the print job. In the application, click File , and then click Print . If the correct printer is not shown as the default, use the drop-down menu to select the correct printer.

If the printer is already set to default, right-click the icon, and then click Properties .
To verify that the printer is using the correct port and driver, click the Ports tab. The printer should be set to use a DOT4 or the USB00X (where X is replaced by a number) port. The driver in use is listed next to Model on the same page.
Click OK to close the Printer properties window, and then close the Printers window.
If this step does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step four: Check whether the printer is paused or offline
Open the Printers folder.
Right-click the icon of the printer in use, and then click Open .
Click Printer on the menu, and then ensure that there are no checkmarks next to Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline . If a checkmark is present on either, click the menu option to remove it. If the menu shows Use Printer Online , click that option.
If neither Pause Printing nor Use Printer Offline are checked, press Esc to leave the menu without making changes.
If this step does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step five: Manually clear out the print queue
Follow the steps given below to clear the print queue.
Open the Printers folder.
Click Start .
Click Control Panel .
Click Printers and Other Hardware or Printers and Faxes .
NOTE: If you have the Printers and Faxes option in this screen, skip to step 5 below; if not, continue to the next step.

Click Printers and Faxes .
Select View Installed Printers .
Double-click the printer icon to open the print queue.
Click the Printer menu at the top-left corner of the window.
Select Purge Print Documents or Cancel All Documents , and then click Yes to confirm.
If still there are documents in the queue, restart the computer, and try printing again after restart.
Check the print queue again to ensure that it is clear. If it is not clear, or if the queue is clear but jobs are still getting stuck after attempting to print, continue troubleshooting.
If this step does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step six: Restart the Print Spooler service
Open Administrative Tools .
Click Start .
Click Control Panel .
Click Performance and Maintenance .
Click Administrative Tools
Double-click Services .
Click Print Spooler .
Click Stop to stop the service. Click Start to restart the service.
Click OK .
Restart the computer.
If this step does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
Step seven: Check the software application
If print jobs from one specific application are backing up, then that application may be failing or interfacing with the print driver incorrectly.
Use the following steps to verify whether a specific application is the problem:
Close the application, and then reopen it.
Send a print job from the application.
NOTE: Most HP all-in-one products do not support printing from a DOS application. Determine if the software application is Windows-based or DOS-based by checking the system requirements of the application.

If the queue backs up again, try printing from the Notepad to see if it is an application issue or the driver issue.
Clear the queue using the previously mentioned steps.
Click Start , and then click Programs or All Programs .
Click Accessories , and then click Notepad .
Type a few characters in the Notepad.
Click File , and then click Print .
If printing is successful from Notepad but not from the application, contact the manufacturer of that application.
Cause
If the printer does not complete a print job before other jobs are sent, print jobs can build up in the print queue, causing it to become backed up.

My r290 add red color to my photos

*** I'll be more than happy to help you on that. you might be talking about R280, because theres no R290 for epson. there is a great possibility thatsome of the nozzles of your printer are clogged by dried inks, thats why when it prints, the inks are not equally distributed or is not balanced.to check that, print a nozzle check, and if you see gaps or breaks, between the lines, do head cleaning. this is how you can do it, its very easy for you. Using the Buttons on the Printer 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, that the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer, and the red maint.5.1.8.jpg ink light is not on. (If the red maint.5.1.9.jpg ink light is on, you need to replace a cartridge.) 2. Turn the printer off and make sure the front tray is in the paper (lower) position. 3. Make sure letter-size plain paper is loaded in the printer. 4. Hold down the maint.5.1.10.jpg paper button, then press the maint.5.1.11.jpg power button. Hold down both buttons until the maint.5.1.12.jpg power light begins to flash, then release the maint.5.1.13.jpg power button. maint.5.1.14.jpg 5. When the nozzle check starts to print release the maint.5.1.15.jpg paper button. Check the nozzle check pattern that prints to see if there are gaps in the lines. maint.5.1.16.jpg 6. If there are no gaps or lines, the print head does not need to be cleaned. If there are gaps or lines, or the test patterns are faint, follow the steps in do the Head Cleaning to clean the nozzles. Using the Buttons on the Printer 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red maint.5.1.23.jpg ink light is off. (If the red maint.5.1.24.jpg ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge.) 2. Hold down the maint.5.1.25.jpg ink button on the printer for approximately 3 seconds. The printer runs a head cleaning cycle and the green maint.5.1.26.jpg power light flashes. Cleaning takes several seconds. Caution:
Never turn off the printer while head cleaning is in progress. You may damage it.

Do not insert the CD/DVD tray until cleaning has finished. 3. When the green maint.5.1.27.jpg power light stops flashing, make sure paper is loaded in the printer, then print a nozzle check to determine whether you need to clean the print head again. Print Head Nozzles If you don’t see any improvement after cleaning three times, turn the printer off and wait overnight. This allows any dried ink to soften. Then, try cleaning the print head again.

- If the power light is flashing it means that your printer may be receiving data.
- If the resume light is flashing you may be out of paper, or you may have a paper jam, you may be printing a two sided document by hand and the first side has finished printing.
- If the print cartridge status light is flashing that means the top cover may be open, of there may be a problem with one of the cartridges.
- If all of the lights are flashing the printer may need to be reset.

Hope this helps.

Red & Green Lights keep flashing on Epson Stylus Photo1280

I had the same problem. You need to reset the waste ink counter:

1. Turn printer off, unplug power cord. Disconnect computor interface cable (back of the printer).
2. After one minute, reattach power cord, but not the computor interface cable.
3 Hold down the LOAD/EJECT and CLEANING buttons simultaneously (cleaning button has ink drop on it) .
4 Turn printer on. Release all buttons as soon as the paper out light flashes.
5 Quickly press the cleaning button, and hold for 10 sec while paper out light flashes.
6 Release the button and the printer will initialize.
7. Once the initialization is complete, turn the printer off.
8. Reconnect the interface cable.
9. Turn the printer on and try to print your document.

This process worked for me. Good luck!
