Seagate 1.5TB dropped from office table... TWICE.

Upon connecting my harddrive to my laptop and just getting up from under the table, a person walked by and knocked it down causing the 2.0 USB cable to pop out of my laptop. After a few minutes of apologies, I connected everything back and everything seemed fine. Less than 5 minutes later, I get up for a cup of coffee and when I come back, the hardrive is on the floor once again. This time, the case is cracked open and I can see the internal parts of the harddrive. The USB plug is bent on the harddrive side, and once again, the USB plug was unplugged on the laptop's side. I tried plugging it in, but this time my laptop was taking unsually long to read the Seagate's folders. Once it loaded the BackUp folder, nothing was inside. I tried to close the window and re-opening it, but to my surprise, My Computer didnt even pick up the Seagate Harddrive. So then I tried unplugging the power cord, waited 5 minutes, and plugged it back in. Now it powers up and makes a whirlling noise then shuts down. Does not do anything at all. Help me please gurus. :'( The information on that hard drive is very very important.

The drive is damadged internally, you have to phone or email a data recovery centre to get your data back, that can cost $1500+ because of the size of the disk.

Hitachi hard drive clicking and not working

1) A harddrive is built in a Clean Room. A room that is 99.9 percent dust free. Technicians going to enter the room have to don suits, and hair guards, plus walk through an Air Corridor.

2) Upon opening a harddrive it's 'Lifecycle' is done. The harddrive is no good now. There is a VERY small time limit to remove wanted personal data.

I burned out my external hard drives PCB board and I am unable to find a new one

The Printed Circuit Board ON THE Harddrive inside the Seagate FreeAgent, or the small PCB inside the Seagate FreeAgent's external enclosure? (Case)

If you are referring to the small PCB that the Harddrive connects to, and has the USB cable coming from it, just buy an external enclosure, and install the Harddrive into it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HZ-wTdscgc

If your Seagate is like the one in the link above, it has a laptop size Harddrive in it, and it is a SATA unit.

2.5 inches across in width. (2 and a half inches)

This is an example of a 2.5 SATA external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3195233&CatId=2783

IF you are referring to the PCB on the Harddrive itself, good luck.

One method would be to buy another harddrive like the one in the Seagate FreeAgent, and use it's PCB so that you can retrieve your information.

Then reinstall the PCB on the new harddrive.

How to format from mac to seagate

if you are referring to mac as Mac O.S. and Seagate. Mac is a non-dos operating system and seagate is the manufacturer of the harddrive. If you want to remove the mac o.s. from the seagate harddrive to install windows you will need to run F-Disk > choose to have large disk support > then once in f-disk you will se options, one in particular to remove non-dos partition/s afterwhich once removed you will need to create a new partition and make it active. After this you can then exit the f-disk and upon rebooting the computer install your windows via the installation media

My seagate 1tb external harddrive is not recognised by my laptop. system is windows vista

Is it recognized when connecting to another computer?

If not, then either:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the casing has failed,
* the disk-drive inside the casing has failed.

If the former, then disassemble the case, and remove the disk-drive,
and connect the disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer,
to see if the files on the disk-drive are still accessible.

If the unit is still under warranty, exercise the warranty, to get a replacement.

Hard Drive Dropped

Turn off your computer and then plug in the FreeAgent external drive. Then try turning your computer on, it should read.  If it doesn't I would go to the Seagate website for troubleshooting.

Lightly Dropped Seagate 100GB External Hard Drive

Your not going to like this, but remember you did ask..
The only way to recover your data is to use a data recovery centre.
You can try this place if you are in the USA
This is not an endorsement of that particular company, but an idea of what you will be dealing with.

For the record, there is no such thing as a light drop when it comes to hdd's. The drive will have recorded the damage as a G-Force that can be read off the controller board at the factory and will not be covered under any warranty either.

Sorry for the bad news.
