What is the problem?

Yes I checked the tray throughly. I also changed to paper to legal plain and changed the configuration...still came back on the display panel change paper size...just won't stop asking.

If I put the add-on paper tray 500 sheet that tray works fine.

I was thinking though I might order another paper tray and try it since I replaced the pickup assy and still have problems...what do you think

I also cold reset the printer just in the event something was set wrong...still has problems

(1) dose it work ok when you install paper.
(2) when it runs out of paper it dose not a sheet going through it so it gives that code .If its still works dont worry about it should be fine.

Check the Paper Handling Menu. The Tray 1 size and Tray 1 Type should be set to Any Size. This means that the printer should pull the paper from Tray 1 first when paper is loaded in tray 1

Are these printers designed to handle Legal sheets?
Did you tell the Printers Software that you will be sending Legal size sheets to this printer?

The paper tray is a non-repairable item. HP replaces them outright.
