We have an HP C6180. Carraige jam with grinding noise
We have an HP C6180. We get an error message of ''Carraige Jam: Open door clear jam and press ok''
There is no paper in the printer and this message is accompanied by a grinding or rapid clacking noise. The carraige is stuck on the left but moves easily by hand.

What probably happened is that paper jam caused the carraige alignment sensor to get out of place or to get covered, moved, etc and the printer doesn't know what to do...
What I would suggest trying is, unplug the printer, try pulling the carraige out to the center and then close it and plug it back in, see if this kicks it enough to reset itself.
I think the message is instructions, as in (1) open door
(2) clear carriage jam
(3) press enter
So there is something internal to the printer that makes it think it has a carriage jam, piece of paper under a sensor, dirty or stuck sensor.
If you can't find it using a bright light, try canned air.
yes, that is a carriage jam and not paper, the grinding is from the clean station that gets blocked with dried ink and cant move. you need to open the printer and clean the ink off of the clean station so it can clean properly and not cause a carriage jam.

Sounds like you have a jam. Open the back of the printer and checl for any paper large or small. If there is no paper, just opening the door and closing it may get rid of the message. All it takes is a piece of paper the diameter of a pea to send a signal that there is a paper jam. After yuou have finished close the door and push enter to let the printer know you are finished. See if this helps. I don't think it has anything to do with the ink cartridges. It sounds more like something stuck causing the jam. Be sure not to have anything like a staple attached to the paper you are printing on to. A speck of dirt could casue a jam message too.
Make sure you can move the print cartridge holder freely and that it isn't being blocked by anything inside the printer, also check if the cleaning station is in the right position, maybe it is locking the cartridges.
I have an Hp Officejet 5110. I have an error message saying "Open door, clear carriage jam, then press enter". But where is its door? How can I clear the carriage jam?
I tried pressing the # & 6 at the same time, but the error message still there.
We did all of that and no change.
