Is the white wire supposed to be connected to the engine?

I bought the Peg Perego Thomas the Train ''ride on'' at a yard sale. I tried to operate it when I got home, but only the sounds worked (it didn't move). I am currently charging the battery per other recommendations I have read on this site, but I also noticed that the white wire coming from the main Thomas ''engine'' car to the actual engine (located in the tender car - the car that the children sit on) is not connected to anything...should it be? The black wire is attached to the actual engine and there appears to be a small metal clip that looks like it could hook on to the white wire, but I am unsure if it actually goes there.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Peg Perego Thomas Train Track Rider

The red button on the right must be held down for anything to move. It turns the lights on, makes some train noises, then moves forward. If you don't hold the button down, nothing will happen. Note that when the train is underway, the left red button becomes a train whistle. Otherwise, when the train is not running, that left button produces music. Hope this helps.

Peg Perego Thomas the Train Ride-on Music button not working

It could be a bad switch or the music board has a bad contact.
