Try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers.

Is the error light flashing?

From the printer utility can you print a nozzle check sheet or align the printhead?

Does it seem to be printing (feeding sheet and moving printhead) or nothing happening at all?

Try removing all the tanks, take out the head. If blocked try cleaning manualy by running warm water over the ink ports/printhead jets - dry off and reinstall.

SOURCE: Most of Group 1inks,(except red) won't print

Over on the right is not waste ink pads, waste ink is under the print engine covering the whole bottom of the printer. On the right is the purge assembly and there is ink on the filters on top and on the squeegee that wipes the printhead. You may need a new purge assembly, or just re attach a hose in the purge unit that may have come off. That printer is well worth the repair...

I had fully-refilled the ink into the CISS tank of my printer (CANON IP1980) however, the only colors that went out were magenta and yellow only. no black or cyan. the ink from the CISS tank did flow into...

You could try a head cleaning or a deep cleaning. You can find them in your printer properties under maintenance. After a few cleanings, try a test page. Keep cleaning and trying a test page until it prints like it should. If it never prints black and/or cyan, the print head is either seriously plugged or damaged.

I am having a problem printing with my HP printer

you wasted your time using cleaning program and heaps of ink...

follow this procedure:

1. remove all ink cartridges from the printer
2. check if ink is soluble in water, isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirit (this which do not create lumps or precipitations is correct solvent)
3. put one drop of solvent in th centre of aspiration hole on receptable
4. if solvent is absorbed through input, that meant problem is not with printer but with cartridges.
5. check printer cartridge by stamping them with tissue if they "produce" any ink on the outlet,
6. put one drop of solvent on cartridge outlet and insert them in correct bases
7. print test page, print should be rather weak as solvent will go through the nozzles
8. print test page from computer
9.create "strip page" of each colour used, separate by no colour (white) start with yellow strip, then white, light cyan, white, cyan, white, light magenta, white, magenta, white, black - this strip pattern will force all cartridge to operate on they max delivery.

if there is no result, service by technician will be in place...

all ink based printers need to print at least one page per week... ink will dry pretty fast, especially in dry or hot condition.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to canon.com's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

    ---
I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.

Canon Pixma yellow color problem

Either the ink you are using is not going to give the color you want, or you have print heads that are blocked.

Cyan missing on parts of a print out - Canon MP500

Common problem with this (and other) canon printers. I usually just lift the cover and lift the highlighted tank out and put it back in, sometimes I have to do that 2 or 3 times before it will let me print. If lifting that tank doesn't do it, try lifting all the tanks and putting them back. Eventually you will get a message that the tank you are refilling is empty (even if it's full). When that happens, press and hold the "stop/reset" button for 5 seconds (this is from Canon) then you will get a message that Canon will not be responsible for damage to the printer because you are using different ink than theirs (just ignore it). You can also try cleaning the contact points on both ink cartridge and on printer w/ cotton swab lightly dipped in alcohol.
