I am trying to help my friend fix his Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It runs fine in SafeMode, but when you try to start up normal it goes to a BSOD, with an error message stating IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - I'm pretty sure it's a hardware error -- It is not overheating. I would like to fix it without having to open the case if possible. I have run a chkdsk and it closes the window as soon as it is done running so I can't read what it says.
If you can run it in safe mode, have you tried doing a system restore to a previous restore point (one that was at a time when you could start the machine)? Sometimes software or drivers that are installed can cause problems and restoring back to a previous good state may resolve the issue.
