Solid black lines on the right side of page

When the receiving side gets our fax it has a solid black line on the right side, also our confirmation sheet come through with the same thing. I changed the toner thinking that could be the problem but that didn't fix it. What should I do?

Try sliding the blue tab on the drum unit side-to-side. If that does not cure it, you need a new DRUM UNIT

A Solid black line down the left side of the page

It could be 2 things...

1. Your scanner glass is dirty...open the doc feeder and clean the glass. probably Wite-Out.

2. A segment of your scanner assembly lamp is burned out. Not good, uneconomical to repair.

2" black horizontal line appears on paper when I fax, print,

Check the wondow where the paper passes to be scanned. You will probably find some debris or white out stuck on the glass. That is usually the cause of vertical lines on sent faxes.

Solid wet black line on back of pages

What happens when you print with single sided document selected in the preferences? Is there more than one MX850 printer driver showing in the Printers & Faxes (This is Windows ?? XP ? 95 ? ). If so delete all of them and reinstall. Otherwise I would check a printhead alignment from the Maintenance menu to see if that solves it.

A bar code stripe on the right side of the copy.

i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.

good luck,

Some faxes I received have half the page printing in solid black or with lines through it.

This sounds like a noise problem. Call your phone company and have them test your phone line for noise. If you have DSL, and do not have the filter - then you will need to obtain one of those. The filter converts DSL lines to regular phone signals, because the DSL has extra stuff on it.

With it being only some of the faxes, it could be the sending fax that has the noise too. If your line is clean and it is not the DSL filter, then ask the sender to have their line tested.
