Internet connection Netgear WGR614v7. When I turn on the computer my netgear router is not connected to the internet. To get connection I pull the power cord for about 10 seconds and the internet will connect. Vista, brighthouse cable and netgear is new. What can I do to have internet connection every time I turn on computer without pulling power cord.

Problem solved by bus50. I had computer with windows vista, I took that computer aside and replaced with a computer that has windows xp, now my neatgear works just fine and so does a lot of other programs. I think windows vista is the worst os to ever come along. Thank you.

What type of internet connection do you have? (ie. Cable, DSL)

Has your setup worked in the past or is this a new setup?

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2007

You'll have to forgive me, when you mentioned Brighthouse cable I was not sure if you were mentioning a brand of ethernet cable you were using or your service provider.

If you connect your computer directly to the cable modem (no router) are you able to stay connected to the internet after rebooting the computer?

If you can I would try logging in to your Netgear router's control panel and use the clone MAC address feature to see if this solves the problem.

Using a CAT5 cable, connect your computer to the router, disconnect the power supply from the router, and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord, and open the browser on your computer. Type in the address www.routerlogin.net and press the enter key. This will take to the main setup menu. Set up the router as you wish. To secure your router connection, vist these websites: http://www.labnol.org/internet/secure-your-wireless-wifi-network/10549/ and http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/wireless_secure.htm.
