It seems, from your description, that the convergence circuit is failing. The usual components that fail are the convergence integrated circuits.

  • Anonymous Mar 07, 2008

There are two "chips" or integrated circuits along an aluminum heat sink that have to be changed. The generic part # is STK392-150, the original Sony # is 8-749-014-37. The power/convergence board needs to be removed to unsolder and replace these two components.

Lamp part number

KP-43T70 is a CRT based rear projector and does not use a Lamp like newer LCD/DLP projectors. It uses 3 (Red, Green, Blue) glycol liquid cooled CRT's (like the picture tubes of yesteryear) to produce the image/light as opposed to a Lamp.

I have blue wavy lines on my screen when i play my xbox360 and ps3 on video 2 but not when im watching cable

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

KP-51HW40 Sony 51" Fades to blue screen

The service manual on page 8 shows how to adjust the Red/Blue/Green screen voltages. To get to the adjustment board, take the front speaker grill off (two screws at the bottom left and right) and set it aside. No need to disconnect any wires. Then remove the plywood board with 4 screws that exposes the screen/focus adjustments. The top 3 adjustments are for focus, and you need not mess with these. The bottom 3 adjustments are for Red/Blue/Green screen voltage rough adjustments. My screen showed red lines, so I had to turn the bottom right adjustment with a philips head screwdriver just slightly until the red gun retrace lines where no longer visible.

Red Bowed Lines / Red Hue

I tried the solution that was posted for this problem and it worked!
Just remove the Low front panel by removing the two bottom screws that are covered by two screw covers, then remove the second panel (black) by removing the 4 screws then you'll notice a module with 6 adjustment knobs, get a small screw driver, and with the t.v. on, being carefull , and with somebody accross the room looking at the screen begin with the lower left knob and turn left very slowly and ask the person across the room to let you know if the screen is better or not, after this I had to adjust the green as well so, I adjusted the next knob over to the left. Do this adjustment carefully and try to remenber the original position of the knobs in case you have to go back.f
Good Luck,
Californian.

Sony KP-43T70 green ghost problem

The cause of the problem can be that the CRT-s are getting weak. Life span of CRT is around 30000 hours of working time. Please calculate. If you need more info please advice.

Sony KP-43T70

A steady red light is an indication of a power supply regulation problem.. Its not a job that can be done by a do-it your selfer or an end user. Sorry man those days are done. You should for your health and best interest, seek out a local TV repair peep to assist you with this repair.
